Our service is one of the most critical roles that enables the council function and we take pride in the quality of digital and IT service delivery both internally and through our managed service suppliers.
In digital and IT, we have responsibility for the councils web estate, software, hardware, application support, development, telephony, networks and cyber security.

About The Role
This role is a crucial for the next phase of our digital journey in Reading as a borough. The role will be central in our ambitious to take the lead in digital innovation, customer and employee experience. This role will embody the essence of a digital culture and will lead digital and web strategies and techniques to make this happen within the council and across borough communities.
You will work with existing partners as well as the tech industry in Reading to boost the digital culture of Reading as a Borough.
About You
We are looking for someone with strong technical expertise and a proactive, collaborative approach. You dont need to have experience in every area listed, but you should be confident in your ability to learn and adapt.
- Have experience developing modern web applications using JavaScript, Vue, and Nuxt.
- Be comfortable working with cloud platforms, particularly Azure and AWS.
- Have experience with APIs, automation, and data integration.
- Be able to lead technical projects and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Be familiar with or willing to learn Salesforce environments and Apex.
- Be a team player who is adaptable, curious, and committed to delivering high-quality digital services.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Develop and maintain the councils main website using modern JavaScript frameworks (Nuxt stack with Wordpress CMS), including building new components and managing version upgrades.
- Support data integrations using Azure Logic Apps and Azure Functions.
- Work with AWS services including Lambda (Python), Lex, and Connect to support voice automation and reporting, and support any further stacks that also include Voice Automation and chatbot services.
- Act as a technical lead for new digital solutions, advising on infrastructure, security, and strategic alignment.
- Support the councils move to Salesforce CRM, including integration of customer contact forms and advising on Apex development where needed.
- Lead on API development and management (experience with Flask and Azure API Management tools beneficial).
- Provide technical support for existing digital services, including incident response and resolution.
- Collaborate with teams across the council to advise on technical solutions and maintain strong working relationships.
