Our client based in Wolverhampton are seeking an IT & Operations Systems Support Specialist to join their operations team. This is more than a traditional IT support role. While providing day-to-day technical support is an important part of the position, the primary focus is on improving and optimising existing business systems to better support operational teams.
The successful candidate will work closely with operations, transport planning, warehousing, compliance, and administrative staff to understand how they work and tailor existing software to match real business processes. The aim is to maximise the value of current systems by configuring, customising, automating, and improving them, helping to reduce manual administration and increase efficiency across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Systems Development
- Collaborate with operational managers, planners, administrators, and other stakeholders to understand business processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Configure, customise, and optimise existing operational systems, including fleet and asset management, compliance, scheduling, and related platforms.
- Design and develop reports, dashboards, and automated workflows to streamline operations and reduce manual tasks.
- Lead small to medium-sized improvement projects from initial analysis through implementation, testing, user training, and ongoing support.
- Act as the liaison between software vendors and internal users, translating operational requirements into practical system improvements.
- Review existing software capabilities, identify underutilised features, and recommend enhancements or additional training to improve adoption.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve operational efficiency through better use of technology.
- IT Support
- Provide first and second-line IT support for hardware, software, user accounts, and general technical issues.
- Manage Microsoft 365 administration, including user accounts, permissions, device setup, and Entra ID administration.
- Maintain accurate records of IT assets, support requests, and resolutions.
- Support the security, integrity, and availability of company systems through effective access control and good cybersecurity practices.
- Escalate and coordinate technical issues with external IT providers and software vendors where necessary.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience configuring, administering, or customising business applications and operational software.
- A process-focused mindset with the ability to analyse workflows and identify practical improvements.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) administration.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to balance reactive support requests alongside longer-term improvement projects.
- Ability to work independently while building strong working relationships across different departments.
- Experience with transport, fleet management, logistics, telematics, or compliance management systems (desirable).
- IT qualification, apprenticeship, or equivalent industry experience (desirable).
- Experience with PowerShell, Power Automate, or similar automation tools (desirable).
- Previous experience working within a logistics, transport, manufacturing, or operational environment (desirable).
