The Opportunity
We are seeking a Research and Development Assistant to support the R&D team with day-to-day product development activities by coordinating samples, testing, documentation, and data management, while providing practical support within the R&D area and ensuring compliance with quality and health & safety standards. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is keen to build their career in R&D within a growing business. The role will provide a good level of exposure to R&D in a pharmaceutical environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage sample submissions, including PO generation and coordination of laboratory analysis requests.
- Arrange sample shipments to CROs, including stability samples.
- Collect, label and prepare samples for internal and external testing.
- Manage R&D sample requests to support commercial/innovation teams.
- Monitor and follow up on raw data and Certificate of Analysis to ensure timely receipt in line with agreed timeframe.
- Organise and maintain data when received from the laboratories for the specific test and batches.
- Verify invoices against completed testing activities to ensure alignment.
- Print data packs ready for review.
- Support with activities related to quality events, supplier non-conformances, change controls and CAPAs within the R&D department.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of technical reports and protocols.
- Raise document change requests in line with internal quality systems.
- Coordinate the request and receipt of materials from the warehouse to support R&D activities.
- Print labels for R&D batches.
- Support with the reconstitution of challenge meals.
- Support with in-house testing, such as sensory analysis, oxygen and leak testing.
- Provide practical support to the formulation scientists, including generation of batch documentation, completion of cleaning records, and assistance with batch manufacture and cleaning of the R&D area.
- Support stock management for the R&D warehouse.
- Assist with departmental training administration, including maintaining the R&D training tracking spreadsheet.
Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrable administration skills combined with a practical, hands-on approach to supporting R&D activity.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, with a strong focus on data integrity.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain relationships internally and externally to the business.
- IT competent (e.g., Microsoft office).
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Willingness and desire to learn and take part in areas and projects outside of the scope of the role.
- GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and Science.
- Knowledge of GMP/GLP/HACCP.
- Experience working within the pharmaceutical or food industry.
- Some laboratory and/or manufacturing experience.
