Our Client based in Sevenoaks is looking for a Buyer to join them on a full time permanent basis. This is a newly created role.
Responsibilities:
- Negotiate and coordinate the timely and cost effective supply of all materials, sub-assemblies and support services to the point of need, thereby ensuring that the company cost and performance targets are achieved.
- Collaborate with Operations, Commercial and Manufacturing disciplines (team approach) to maintain alignment and performance.
- Manage a portfolio of suppliers with reviews and action plans for continuous improvement.
- Assist in sourcing of new suppliers where required.
- Develop long term supply relationships with key vendors employing supply chain management techniques to ensure the timely and cost effective supply of all materials.
- In considering new sources for a product or services, preference should be given to sources that hold ISO9001 and ISO14001 (or equivalent).
- Work closely with Commercial and Technical teams to contribute to cost effective solutions and competent sources of supply for the given requirement.
- Ensure that deliveries are consolidated where appropriate to maximise use of each delivery vehicle.
- Negotiate cost and lead time reductions on bespoke and proprietary components.
- Ensure that vendors of critical parts understand they are required to provide 100% on-time delivery performance and will be measured as such.
- Regular analysis of component availability and future raw material requirements.
- Suggest new possibilities/opportunities for replenishment system.
- Assist Purchasing Manager in ensuring all products are delivered in the right quantities, at the right quality, at the right time.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- A good standard of secondary education preferably to A Level. (CIPS membership an advantage but not essential).
- Thorough understanding of computerised manufacturing systems (ERP, MPS). SAP Business One would be an advantage.
- At least 12 months experience in a manufacturing environment.
- A proven track record of improving component availability.
- Ability to communicate at all levels.
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Computer literate particularly MS Excel.
- Accurate and attention to detail driven approach.
- Hands on approach to all tasks.
- Working Monday to Friday – 8.30am to 5pm, 20 days holiday.
