Our engineering client based in Rochester is seeking a Metallurgical Service Engineer Job title: Metallurgical Service Engineer Location: Rochester – with UK and international travel Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 pa depending on skill level + overtime Hours: 39 hours per week, 45 minute break Monday to Thursday 8am to 5pm Friday 8am to 2pm Benefits: Annual leave – 20 days in year one, rising to 25 days pa in year 2, overtime and travel payments, contributory pension, uniform, free parking Metallurgical Service Engineer Essential Qualifications / Skills: * Industry relevant qualification * Must speak clear fluent technical English * Must be free to travel worldwide with no restrictions. * Good practical skills, including with test equipment (vacuum leak detection etc.). * Ability to read and understand technical drawings. * Knowledge of metallurgy & resistance welding principles * Use of Microsoft Office. Metallurgical Service Engineer Job Description Work to support ongoing production, maintain product quality, resolve issues and create documentation: * Choose, test and evaluate substitute or replacement component parts for suitability. * Work with service department and key suppliers, analysing field failures to find root cause, reporting/recording findings and recommending remedial action. * Investigate reported technical issues, setting up lab trials to replicate and isolate the fault as necessary. This may require travel to site. * Use Remote Monitoring system to identify systems at risk of known issues and work with service/quality departments to provide remedial action. * Create internal technical documentation recording design/test decisions, drawings of test fixtures using AutoCAD and build manuals. * Help production engineering staff create initial BOMs for new products. The Metallurgical Service Engineer will support and control aspects of sales, production and service: * Perform field trials of new equipment with customers, as and when necessary. * Assist with the commissioning and installation of systems on site. * Resolve problems reported by Service or Test, provide timely solutions and work to prevent unexpected issues. This may require visits to site as necessary. * Work with the service department to support customers’ post-sales by assisting with fault finding and issue resolution activities. * Provide expertise on technical matters to internal sales staff and directly to customers. * Provide training to test and service personnel on the operation and function of new equipment. * Assist in the assembly of prototype devices. * Document tests performed, draw conclusions from data and present findings to colleagues, making recommendations for improvement where necessary. * To assist with sales quotations and offer technical input
