Our long standing and respected ship broking client is seeking an enthusiastic Broker, with the ability to perform within a fast-moving numerate environment. This is a great entry-level opportunity for ambitious candidates looking to build a career in shipping, and the ideal candidate will have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, be dedicated, hardworking and resilient – with a proactive work ethic and eagerness to learn.
The successful candidate will learn the basics of the shipping market, build their own portfolio of clients and learn how the commodities market trades on a daily basis. The candidate will be sponsored through the following necessary financial exams.
Hours: Trading desk hours 6.30am – 5.30pm
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Learn shipping market fundamentals
- Research and analyse freight data & market trends
- Support senior brokers with reporting
- Assist in preparing freight contracts and documentation
- Build and maintain client database
- Learn derivatives trading mechanics
- Study for required financial certifications
- Shadow experienced brokers during client calls/negotiations
- Develop understanding of maritime economics
- Learn compliance & regulatory requirements
- Network within the shipping community
- Learn relevant broker software and trading platforms
