This is an exciting opportunity for an expert in print production to oversee the print edition of the Sunday Mail, playing a central role in our team’s success. This is a part-time position, working 2 days per week (2.5 day contract). Working 10am-6pm on Fridays and 10am-8.30pm on Saturdays. This is a hub-based role linked to our Glasgow Hub. We are therefore looking for candidates based in and around Glasgow.

What will the role involve?

  • Playing a central role in the production of the Sunday Mail.

  • Revising pages and content to ensure they are produced to the highest possible standards and in line with strict deadlines.
  • Liaising with production editors from across the group to ensure production work is not being duplicated across multiple titles and that content is shared whenever appropriate.
  • Filling wings, anchors, and other page elements with suitable stories, and finding stories for gaps either from other papers in the group or by scouring the wires.
  • Directing subs and production team members in story handling, checking pages once they are marked editorial complete, and making any necessary changes or corrections.
  • Completing all tasks in accordance with IPSO, legal and budgetary requirements.

Who are we looking for?

  • You are a highly experienced print production journalist, with demonstrable experience working in a similar national or large regional print environment.
  • You can support, guide and lead a team of subs both in your own newsroom and across the country.
  • You have exceptional editorial judgement and initiative, allowing you to make critical decisions in a high pressure environment.
  • You have proven experience drawing pages and writing headlines accurately and efficiently.
  • You are highly organised with outstanding attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines with ease.

How we'll look after you

  • 25 days' holiday (plus bank holidays), as well as an extra day after you've been with us for three, five and 10 years.
  • An extra day's paid leave each year to volunteer for a cause close to your community or your heart.
  • Big moment day - an extra day’s paid leave for a moment that matters to you.
  • Help saving for your retirement - we'll match your company pension contributions up to 6%.
  • Supportive and progressive people policies.
  • A healthcare cash plan - giving you money back for a range of medical expenses.
  • Car lease scheme - you can buy a brand new electric or hybrid car through our leasing partner.
  • Wellbeing support - including a 24/7 assistance programme for you and your family.
  • Access to lots of discounts.
  • Interest-free loans - including for season tickets and technology.

If you’re excited about this role but don’t tick every single box, please don’t let that stop you from applying. We value potential, passion and the perspectives that different backgrounds bring to our work. As an equal opportunities employer, we encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences.
