Are you a well-connected journalist who knows what makes your local businesses and community tick? Do you want to create must-read business content that drives reader loyalty? We are looking for a public-facing Business Editor with digital storytelling skills to expand our Business journalism offering across the Daily Record, EdinburghLive and GlasgowLive by driving community and network growth through breaking local and national business news. This is a hybrid role based out of our Glasgow office.

The position involves attending in-person events that may fall during early mornings, evenings, or weekends, so you must be based in or around the area and be able to work flexibly where required.

What the role will involve:

  • Providing a daily feed of unique, relevant business coverage of interest to the local community.
  • Sourcing original stories which inform and engage the readers about the local business community.
  • Curating must-read newsletters, live blogs, weekly roundups, and exclusive subscriber-focused journalism that drives daily site visits.
  • Actively developing key networks, engaging with influential people within the business community, and representing your title and BusinessLive in person, on social platforms, in videos, and on podcasts.
  • Feeding standout regional enterprise, entrepreneurship, and small-business stories into the freshly relaunched BusinessLive platform.
  • Working with colleagues in commercial teams to maximise revenue opportunities for the business journalism portfolio.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • You’ll live on patch and bring, or rapidly build, an extensive network of local contacts.
  • An excellent understanding of search, social headlines, newsletter strategy, and digital-first formats.
  • A clear understanding of what content hooks audiences into making your coverage a daily part of their business and personal life.
  • The confidence to represent the brand and work closely with local business leaders.
  • A self-starting attitude and the ability to maintain and drive publishing standards.

If you’re excited about this role but don’t tick every single box, please don’t let that stop you from applying. We value potential, passion, and the perspectives that different backgrounds bring to our work. Diverse perspectives strengthen our teams and help us better serve our audiences, which is why we’re dedicated to fostering an inclusive workplace where everyone feels welcome and supported.
