We’re looking for a Page Editor to work closely with our editorial leads and Chief Sub-Editor to maintain the high standards of the Mirror newspaper. The role combines sub-editing high-profile Mirror page leads as well as shared content across both the Mirror and Express brands. It’s a fast-moving role perfect for a versatile sub-editor with national newspaper experience. This isn’t just about catching typos; it’s about maintaining the unique voice of a brand that has been part of the media landscape for more than a century. This is a hybrid role linked to our Canary Wharf hub, but a full-time work-from-home contract could be considered in some circumstances.
You will edit copy for print editions of the Mirror (and Express as needed), ensuring all content is polished, precise and impactful. You will ensure copy fits allocated space while maintaining clarity and flow, consistently translating complex information into clear, plain English. Beyond refining the narrative, you will craft accurate and effective headlines that capture our readers’ attention. A rigorous approach to fact-checking is essential, as is the ability to adapt seamlessly to breaking news by updating stories quickly and accurately as events unfold.
You will ensure every piece of copy strictly adheres to house style and internal company guidelines. Furthermore, you will act as a key checkpoint for quality control by ensuring all content is legally sound and fully compliant with IPSO guidelines. By balancing speed with a meticulous eye for detail, you will ensure our output remains professional, ethical and of the highest quality. This role will involve working nine shifts a fortnight on a rolling rota, including regular weekend work, so a flexible approach is required.
You are a seasoned sub-editor with experience working in a similar national newsroom environment, who combines sharp editorial judgment with creative flair. You have the skill and judgment to decide instantly whether copy can be left unchanged or requires a complete, high-speed overhaul to meet the exacting standards of a national newspaper. You have an uncompromising eye for detail, an understanding of media law and a track record of working to strict, demanding deadlines.
We take good care of our people – and that means more than just a pay packet. Whatever your role, you’ll get a range of benefits, including: 30 days’ holiday.
