This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape the future of video journalism at scale. As Editorial Director for Video & Audio, you will be the architect of the next era of our newsrooms — moving us beyond “video as an add-on” and into a world-class, audience-first video and audio ecosystem. Your mission is to build a future where high-production YouTube formats, viral social storytelling, and premium subscriber-only content drive deep engagement, cultural relevance, and sustainable revenue.

You’ll build on strong foundations already in place: dozens of talented video specialists embedded in our newsrooms, a thriving YouTube team, and a commercial-led video studio built for growth. This role sits at the intersection of editorial ambition, audience insight, and commercial impact — and has the power to redefine how millions of people experience news every day. With a monthly reach of more than 48 million people, your work will help shape the national conversation every single day.

We offer the scale and influence of a media powerhouse, combined with the ambition and agility of a digital disruptor. This is your platform to redefine what local and national journalism looks like in a post-text, video-first world.

As a modern media organisation, we’re much more than just news. And it takes a wide range of people and skills to serve diverse audiences, customers and communities like we do. We know everyone has their own story to tell, so we’ve built an environment where every background is respected and every day is a day to explore. We’ll help you build a career that works with your life, while giving you the space to create and grow.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Set the Vision: Define and execute an ambitious video and audio strategy across our national and regional portfolio, including iconic titles such as the Mirror, Daily Express, Daily Star, and Manchester Evening News.
  • Own Social Video Leadership: Drive platform-native storytelling across Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and Instagram — ensuring our journalism shows up where audiences live and adds value in every moment.
  • Create Must-Watch Formats: Conceptualise, pilot, and scale original, high-impact video formats designed for YouTube and social platforms, building loyal communities and distinctive brand identities across the UK and Ireland.
  • Grow Subscriptions: Partner with Product and Subscription teams to develop premium video and audio propositions that deepen loyalty, reduce churn, and strengthen value exchange with registered users.
  • Unlock Commercial Value: Work closely with commercial and advertising teams to develop sellable video IP and branded content that attracts blue-chip advertisers without compromising editorial integrity.
  • Lead at Scale: Manage a multi-million-pound budget and inspire a diverse, high-performing team of producers, editors, and creators — fostering a culture of innovation, speed, and exceptional editorial standards.

Who We’re Looking For

  • We’re looking for a bold, visionary leader with a proven track record of transforming video at scale in fast-moving media environments.
  • Senior Leadership Experience: A strong background at executive or senior leadership level within a major media organisation, broadcaster, or high-growth digital publisher.
  • Proven Content Innovation: Clear evidence of launching and scaling successful video formats, channels, or franchises from concept to sustained audience growth.
  • A Data-Driven Mindset: The ability to turn complex audience and performance data into sharp editorial decisions and rapid content pivots.
  • Commercial Intelligence: A deep understanding of how video content intersects with programmatic advertising, direct sponsorship, branded content, and subscription models.
  • Inspirational Leadership: A reputation for building, motivating, and leading high-performing teams through periods of significant industry change.
