Do you want to shape how millions of readers connect with our stories? As an Audience Editor, you will unlock the biggest social growth opportunities for our brands in the South West, turning data and platform signals into best‑practice action across various platforms. You will be an influential member of our editorial team, working closely with title editors and running distribution across social, newsletters, and direct messaging while delivering projects that grow registered users and reach new readers.

You will oversee best practice multi-platform distribution across social, newsletters and direct messaging, turning casual readers into loyal, registered users. You’ll set the standards for growth across our titles and dive into high-priority newsroom projects. Data‑led and agile, you’ll balance daily execution with exploratory initiatives that unlock new brand opportunities.

This role is primarily home based (with regular office travel for those located near our Bristol, Plymouth or Exeter workspaces). We are ideally looking for candidates based in the South West, but we are open to candidates from across the UK. This is an initial 12 month fixed term contract position.

What will the role involve?

  • You will identify the best audience opportunities to drive growth across the Reach portfolio, ensuring content is packaged appropriately for the correct platform to drive high performance.
  • You will manage social media channels for BristolLive, SomersetLive, GloucestershireLive, DevonLive, PlymouthLive, and CornwallLive.
  • You will ensure others in the team follow the principles set out for driving maximum growth in key areas while continually identifying new areas of opportunity for our brands.
  • You will curate newsletters and drive interest in them through a targeted distribution strategy, whilst helping to grow direct messaging channels.
  • You will implement projects to grow registered users, finding new ways to promote content off-platform and connect with new readers.

Who are we looking for?

  • You have hands‑on newsroom writing experience and a proven track record of growing and engaging audiences across social media and newsletters.
  • You are a senior NCTJ/NQJ or equivalent qualified journalist, with up to date media law knowledge.
  • You have a passion for digital storytelling and understand its vital impact on both local and national levels.
  • You are an excellent communicator with exceptional time management skills, allowing you to deliver high‑quality work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • We thrive on collaboration, so you are a natural team player who values collective success and open dialogue.
  • You have a strong understanding of all current social media platforms (especially Facebook) and you are an evangelist for audience engagement.
  • You have the agility and willingness to adapt to the rapidly changing needs of digital audiences as well as shifting business priorities.
  • You have a solid understanding of the South West and you are familiar with our brands and audiences.

How we’ll look after you

We take good care of our people - and that means more than just a pay packet. Whatever your role, you’ll get a range of benefits, including:

  • 25 days' holiday (plus bank holidays), as well as an extra day after you’ve been with us for three, five and 10 years. We also have a scheme to help you buy extra holiday if you want to.
  • An extra day's paid leave each year to volunteer for a cause close to your community or your heart.
  • Big moment day - an extra day’s paid leave for a moment that matters to you - like getting married, moving house or welcoming a new addition to the family (human or furry!).
  • Help saving for your retirement - we’ll match your company pension contributions up to 6% and you can contribute through salary sacrifice.
  • Supportive and progressive people policies - we’re proud to have a range of policies to support people in their lives in and outside work, including enhanced family leave and policies to promote flexibility, inclusion and progression.
  • A healthcare cash plan - giving you money back for a range of medical expenses and fast access to doctor's appointments.
  • Car lease scheme - you can buy a brand new electric or hybrid car through our leasing partner, and pay for it through salary sacrifice.
  • Wellbeing support - including a 24/7 assistance programme for you and your family.
  • Access to lots of discounts - including 15% off with Reach’s very own online marketplace, Yimbly, where you can buy everything from homewares to beauty products.
  • Interest‑free loans - including for season tickets and technology.

If you’re excited about this role but don’t tick every single box, please don’t let that stop you from applying. We know that everyone has their own story to tell, and we value potential, passion and the perspectives that different backgrounds bring to our work. Diverse perspectives strengthen our teams and help us better serve our audiences, which is why we’re dedicated to fostering an inclusive workplace where everyone feels welcome and supported.
