Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and grow our business, attracting new customers and promoting our services, using sales and communication skills, coupled with good interpersonal skills.
  • Lead efforts to establish new business contracts and retain business growth opportunities.
  • Primarily obtain new clients and foster business relationships to increase revenue from sales.
  • Develop strategic approaches focusing on both financial gain and customer satisfaction.
  • Cold call as appropriate within your market or geographic area to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities.
  • Meet potential clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging your network and turn this into increased business.
  • Identify potential clients and the decision makers within the client organisation.
  • Research and build relationships with new clients.
  • Set up meetings between client decision makers and company’s practice leaders/principals.
  • Plan approaches and pitches.
  • Work with team to develop proposals that speak to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives.
  • Participate in pricing the solution/service.

Existing Client Retention

  • Present new products and services and enhance existing relationships.
  • Work with technical staff and other internal colleagues to meet customer needs.
  • Arrange and participate in internal and external client debriefs.
  • Build long‑term relationships with new and existing customers.

Management and Research

  • Submit regular weekly progress reports and ensure data is accurate and on a timely basis.
  • Regular updates by telephone to your director.
  • Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed within the company’s system.
  • Forecast sales targets and ensure they are met.
  • Track and record activity on accounts and help to close deals to meet these targets.
  • Keep records of sales, revenue, invoices, etc.
  • Work with marketing staff to ensure that prerequisites (pre‑qualification etc.) are fulfilled within a timely manner.
  • Ensure all team members represent the company in the best light.
  • Attend and represent the company at networking events and meetings.
  • Research and develop a thorough understanding of the company’s people and capabilities.
  • Understand the company’s goals and purpose to enhance and ensure continuous performance improvements.

Skills and Experience

ESSENTIAL:

  • Experience in a BDM role for a similarly sized organisation within the Power, Renewables and/or Multi-Utilities sector.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent communication skills face to face, verbal and in writing with all diversity of people.
  • Excellent influencing, persuasion, negotiation and closing skills.
  • Experience of compiling and presenting company information to new and existing clients.
  • Experience of bid‑writing/tendering.
  • High levels of literacy and numeracy.
  • Excellent IT skills including MS Office.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and multi‑task.
  • Full valid UK driving licence.

DESIRED:

  • Experience in Business Development in the Renewables, Multi‑Utility and Power Sectors.

Additional Information

The role will require you to travel to sites across the UK and Ireland with occasional overnight stays, as and when required. Due to the nature of our works, there may be a requirement for you to cover out of hours work, i.e., weekends and on some occasions nights. Within reason, you must be willing to cover out of hours work where necessary.
