Are you an experienced Machinist with strong conventional machining skills and experience working with engineering drawings? We are recruiting for an experienced Machinist to join a well-established engineering business. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled, time-served engineer who enjoys precision machining and working with a wide range of components and rotating equipment.
The Role
- Operating manual centre lathes to manufacture shafts, sleeves, spacers and similar components
- Machining cast components such as impellers, bearing housings and pump casings
- Using CNC lathes where required
- General milling, including keyways and slots
- Operating slotting machinery and vertical borers
- Machining valve bodies, pump bowls and pump casings
- Balancing and machining impellers
- Removing and replacing case wear rings and bushes
- Measuring components accurately and working to engineering drawings and design tolerances
- Reverse engineering worn or damaged components using measurements and engineering principles
- Supporting workshop fitting and occasional site activities
- Working closely with colleagues to deliver a high-quality service to customers
- Maintaining excellent housekeeping and workshop standards
- Following all health and safety procedures and company policies
About You
- A time-served craft apprenticeship or equivalent machine shop training
- Strong experience using conventional lathes, drills and milling machines
- Experience machining components accurately to engineering drawings
- Confidence using a range of measuring equipment
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience
- Knowledge or experience of rotating equipment, ideally pumps
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- An organised and methodical approach
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- The ability to work independently and use your own initiative
- A full, valid driving licence
