Senior Data Engineer with SAP experience
Overview
This role exists to drive value for our customers and business functions through effective data engineering, modelling, and data transformations by leading the delivery of strategic data solutions whilst setting up resilient data architecture and engineering foundations and supporting junior members of the data engineering team.

Responsibilities
- Support a data migration for an ERP change, specifically between Netsuite and SAP
- Lead the design and orchestration of modularized, automated, event-driven data engineering pipelines and data modelling approaches
- Build in quality by design into data engineering practices, enabling a scalable and flexible data architecture and feature-rich dataset to support the wider Data function and the entire business
- Implement modern code development and data engineering orchestration strategies to target and streamline data engineering processes
- Embed new data techniques into the business through coaching, training, and providing experiment design oversight to more junior data engineers
- Collaborate with third-party partners and software providers to improve and/or implement new data solutions and processes
- Act as the gatekeeper for customer data, ensuring alignment to data privacy standards in collaboration with Data Governance
Accountable for
- Supporting a system-to-system data migration
- Driving the adoption of DevOps and modern code development practices across the Data function
- Collaborating with Quality and Software Engineering and System teams to reduce technical debt and increase cross-functional visibility
- Ensuring that data engineering processes and pipelines are resilient and future-proof
- Developing strong knowledge of all data sources and maintaining relationships with data users/processors across the company
- Mentoring and supporting junior data engineering colleagues
Essential skills and experience
- Extensive expertise in RDBMS, Python, Hadoop, SQL and PySpark
- GCP experience, including Dataproc and Dataflow
- ERP knowledge, ideally Netsuite and SAP
- System-to-system data migration experience
- Hands-on experience in modern code development practices (Infrastructure-as-Code) and data engineering in Google Cloud
- Experience in ETL/ELT technical design, automated testing of engineering pipelines, quality assurance and documentation
- Proven experience in data warehousing, data wrangling and data modelling approaches
- Experience coaching junior data engineering team members
- Experience collaborating with System, Quality Engineering and Software Engineering teams
- Strong critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to deliver under pressure and meet deadlines
- Experience working in an e-commerce/retail market is beneficial

- Willingness to learn new tools and techniques and stay up to date with latest practices
- Ability to align work with business/functional strategies and communicate dependencies clearly
- Drive the adoption of best practices in data engineering and coaching within the team
