Does driving innovation and creating better experiences through technology inspire you? At Re-Leased, we’re levelling up real estate and helping property professionals thrive in a digital-first world. Our cloud-based property management platform combines smart automation, AI-driven insights, and deep industry expertise to make everyday work simpler and more rewarding. We’re here to help property people run better businesses, build stronger communities, and love what they do.

Your Role

The Group Legal Counsel is a standalone senior role responsible for owning all legal matters across the group. This is a deliberately lean structure; one experienced operator, supported by leading AI-augmented legal tools, with the scope and autonomy to build the legal function in the way they believe it should be built. This design reflects Re-Leased's view that a skilled in-house lawyer, paired with modern tools such as Claude and Spellbook, and backed by sound commercial judgement, can deliver the output that traditionally required a small team. The person stepping into this role should share that view; and want the opportunity that comes with it.

Your Responsibilities

  • Commercial Contracting & Compliance: Own commercial contracting and negotiation across the group: MSAs, partner agreements, channel deals, enterprise customer contracts, vendor agreements, NDAs. Hold the line on contract compliance, dispute management and breach response across the customer base.
  • Legal Operations & AI-Augmented Working: Build and maintain group templates, playbooks and self-serve legal resources so the business does not bottleneck on legal. Use Claude, Spellbook or equivalent AI tools for drafting, research, summarisation and first-pass contract review.
  • External Counsel & Corporate Governance: Manage external counsel relationships across NZ, UK, US, Canada and Australia; brief, manage and integrate specialist advice. Ensure corporate compliance, regulatory filings and governance documentation across all subsidiaries and jurisdictions.
  • Risk and Litigation Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and operational risks, including insurance matters and regional compliance. Responsible for ensuring Re-Leased is mitigated against any potential litigation across our global operations, specifically in the USA, working with external counsel as required. Manage office leases, ensuring alignment with global property strategies.
  • Strategic Advisory: Partner with the CFO and executive team on strategic legal matters across the business. Provide proactive legal advice to the Executive Team and Board on a variety of matters.

Your Experience

  • 5+ years PQE, ideally from a top-tier NZ firm.
  • International experience a benefit.
  • Commercial and tech-sector heavy; SaaS exposure ideal. Comfortable making commercial calls, not just legal ones.
  • Active AI user - able to speak concretely in interview about how AI tools are already used in their practice.
  • Collaborative by default; engaged directly in the business rather than operating at arm's length.

Our culture

Our culture is very important to us too, and we strongly believe in living out our core values:

  • People First: One team globally; our people and customers always come first.
  • Find a Way: Like a river, we find a way around all obstacles.
  • Win or Learn: Our journey for improvement never ends; enjoy the ride!
  • Aim High: We dare to set big goals and love the challenge of achieving them against the odds.

Why you'll love working here!

  • Taking care of you: Including comprehensive health insurance, access to a premium EAP service and an annual wellness allowance to spend on what helps you feel good - whether that’s towards a gym membership, new running shoes, or mindfulness apps.
  • Support for families: Generous paid parental leave and flexible, family-friendly support designed to help growing families balance work and life with confidence.
  • Recognition for tenure and milestones: We celebrate time, commitment, and contribution with milestone rewards and additional leave as you grow your career with us.
  • Flexible working, built for a global team: With customers and teammates across New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, and North America, we work in a hybrid, remote‑friendly way with collaborative offices and the flexibility of a balanced approach to WFH/in‑office work.
