Are you looking to develop your career within tax and join a growing, forward-thinking accountancy practice? Our client is an established firm of accountants, tax specialists and business advisors based in Cheltenham, providing a comprehensive range of services to businesses, business owners and high-net-worth individuals across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Tax Assistant to join their expanding team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Personal Tax Assistant to work with a varied portfolio of clients in a supportive and professional environment.

The Role

  • Support a portfolio of personal tax clients, including high-net-worth individuals, business owners, sole traders and partnerships.
  • Manage a portfolio of personal tax clients.
  • Prepare accurate Self-Assessment tax returns in line with HMRC requirements.
  • Assist with HMRC enquiries and liaise with clients to resolve tax-related queries.
  • Build strong client relationships and provide a professional, responsive service.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure deadlines are consistently achieved.
  • Use tax software systems such as Digita or similar.
  • Support the wider team and contribute to the continued success and growth of the practice.

About You

  • Previous personal tax experience gained within a UK accountancy practice (ideally 1–2 years).
  • Experience managing or assisting with a portfolio of personal tax clients.
  • A good understanding of Self-Assessment and HMRC compliance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a methodical and organised approach.
  • The ability to manage your own workload and work effectively to deadlines.
  • Confidence dealing directly with clients and providing excellent customer service.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills.
  • A-levels or equivalent qualifications are preferred, with good grades in Maths and English GCSE.
  • Studying towards ATT would be advantageous but is not essential.
