An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Transport Manager to lead and develop a busy despatch and distribution operation within a fast-paced manufacturing environment based in Gloucestershire.
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the smooth, efficient, and compliant running of transport and logistics operations, while delivering exceptional service to customers and driving continuous operational improvement.
The Role
As Transport Manager, you will oversee all despatch and distribution activities, ensuring orders are delivered on time, in full, and within budget. You will also take responsibility for fleet compliance, operational efficiency, health & safety, and leading a high-performing team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing daily despatch and distribution operations
- Ensuring full legal compliance across transport activities, including Operator Licence accountability
- Leading and motivating the despatch and distribution teams
- Managing fleet operations, servicing, compliance, and vehicle coordination
- Monitoring KPIs and implementing continuous improvement initiatives
- Working closely with internal teams to improve efficiency and customer service
- Managing departmental budgets and operational costs
- Driving health & safety standards across the logistics function
- Utilising IT systems to streamline processes and improve automation
- Building strong internal and external stakeholder relationships
Essential Experience
Applicants must have:
- Previous logistics or transport management experience within a busy manufacturing environment
- Strong people management and leadership experience
- Excellent understanding of transport legal compliance and fleet operations
- Proven ability to manage budgets and improve operational performance
- Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels
- A proactive, hands-on approach with a strong customer focus
- Good IT literacy
