IT Programme Manager – Scotland Container Sorting Facility

  • Edinburgh or Glasgow Scotland | Full-time fixed term
  • Part of the UK Deposit Return Scheme
  • Build the technology behind Scotland’s new Container Sorting Facility

Re.Group has been selected by Exchange for Change to deliver, mobilise and operate the processing facility for Scotland as part of the UK’s new Deposit Return Scheme (DRS), working alongside Hargreaves Services, which will provide the associated collection logistics.

At the centre of Re.Group’s scope is a new Container Sorting Facility in Scotland, which will receive, sort and process returned beverage containers when the scheme commences in October 2027.

Re.Group brings extensive experience from Australia, where we participate in container deposit schemes across every mainland state and the Australian Capital Territory. Our experience includes high-throughput sorting and processing facilities, operational technology, data, systems integration and recycling infrastructure at scale.

We are now seeking an experienced IT Programme Manager to lead the technology programme supporting the delivery, commissioning and operation of the Scottish facility.

About the role

Based in Edinburgh or Glasgow and reporting to the Project Implementation Director, you will have end-to-end responsibility for coordinating the technology required to make the facility operational and ready for Day 1.

This is not simply a corporate IT role. The programme brings together enterprise technology, site infrastructure and operational technology within a high-throughput processing environment.

You will coordinate the agreed end-to-end technology solution across plant systems, networks, data, reporting, operational technology, third-party integrations, cybersecurity, testing and service transition.

You will:

  • Own the integrated IT programme plan, milestones, budget, dependencies, risks and decisions.
  • Coordinate the end-to-end technology solution across operational and enterprise systems.
  • Deliver secure and resilient site network and technology infrastructure.
  • Coordinate integration of sorting equipment, scanning, bale tracking, weighing systems, plant telemetry and operational reporting.
  • Manage interfaces between Re.Group systems, Exchange for Change platforms and third-party technologies.
  • Lead technology vendors and partners against agreed deliverables, milestones and acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure systems support material traceability, reconciliation, reporting, compliance and audit requirements.
  • Embed appropriate cybersecurity, privacy, resilience, backup and recovery controls.
  • Lead integrated testing, cutover and technology go-live readiness.
  • Manage hypercare and stabilisation following commencement.
  • Ensure an effective transition into ongoing operational support.

About you

You will be an experienced technology programme leader who is comfortable working where IT, operational technology and physical infrastructure come together.

You will ideally bring:

  • 10+ years’ experience leading complex, multi-vendor technology programmes.
  • Experience delivering technology from requirements and design through testing, cutover and operational stabilisation.
  • Demonstrated delivery of networks, infrastructure, systems integration and operational technology in industrial or operational environments.
  • Experience integrating existing enterprise platforms with third-party technologies.
  • Strong vendor, commercial and stakeholder management capability.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity, privacy, resilience, backup and disaster recovery.
  • Experience managing client-facing deliverables, acceptance criteria and executive reporting.
  • A relevant qualification in IT, computer science, engineering, programme management or a related discipline.
  • PRINCE2, MSP, PMP or equivalent certification would be advantageous.

Why this opportunity?

You will help build the technology environment behind a new Container Sorting Facility in Scotland, bringing together physical infrastructure, processing equipment, operational systems, data and reporting into an integrated solution.

You will be involved from implementation through testing, commissioning and go-live, and see the technology transition into a live operating environment.

If you enjoy delivering complex technology where IT, operational systems and physical infrastructure intersect, we would like to hear from you.
