A fantastic opportunity has become available for a motivated and driven Production Engineer to join a growing manufacturing business in Cheltenham. This role is ideally suited to someone with proven experience working as an Engineer within a manufacturing environment who is passionate about continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and operational excellence.
The successful candidate will play a key role in improving manufacturing processes, reducing waste, increasing efficiency, and supporting production performance across the site.
The Role
As Production Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering production engineering activities that support quality, cost, and delivery objectives across manufacturing operations. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and improving manufacturing processes using Lean techniques
- Applying key Lean tools including: Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Line Balancing, Layout & Flow, Kanban, SMED
- Designing manufacturing systems, layouts, fixtures, tooling, and material handling solutions
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness and reduce waste
- Creating engineering drawings and concepts using CAD software (Solidworks) is advantageous
- Assisting with PFMEAs, process flows, and standard operating procedures
- Supporting root cause investigations and 8D problem-solving activities
- Driving value engineering initiatives to reduce manufacturing costs
- Working collaboratively across production, quality, and engineering teams
To be considered, candidates must have:
- Experience working as an Engineer within a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding and practical exposure to Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques
- Experience applying continuous improvement methodologies within production operations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with stakeholders at all levels
- Good working knowledge of CAD software and Microsoft Office
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- Engineering Degree or Apprentice Trained with HNC/HND in Manufacturing Engineering
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma qualification/training
- Previous Solidworks experience is advantageous
- Experience supporting production improvement and efficiency projects
