As a Business Development Executive, you will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building client relationships, and promoting waste recycling services. The role focuses on building long-term relationships with commercial, industrial, construction, and public-sector clients to increase recycling volumes, improve customer retention, and drive revenue growth. The successful candidate will have strong sales and relationship management skills, an understanding of environmental sustainability, and the ability to promote waste reduction and recycling solutions tailored to customer needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Development
    • Identify and develop new business opportunities in the waste management sector.
    • Generate leads through networking, cold calling, site visits, and industry events.
  • Relationship Management
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, including businesses, local authorities, and contractors.
    • Promote company recycling services (e.g., plastic, metal, paper, e-waste, hazardous waste solutions).
    • Conduct regular client meetings and waste audits to identify opportunities for improved recycling and waste diversion.
    • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for customer queries relating to recycling and waste management services.
    • Liaise with customers to resolve queries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Market Awareness
    • Conduct market research to identify trends, competitor activities, and customer needs.
    • Produce and analyse daily, weekly, and monthly reports across multiple contracts.
    • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure service delivery meets client expectations.
  • Commercial
    • Maintain accurate customer records and sales activity within the CRM system.
    • Produce regular sales forecasts, pipeline updates, and activity reports.
    • Work collaboratively with operations and customer service teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
    • Support tender submissions and public procurement opportunities where required.
  • General
    • Collaborate with colleagues across various departments to ensure smooth operations.
    • Provide administrative support to the team and ensure actions from meetings are completed within agreed timescales.
    • Contribute to the achievement of the company’s strategic and operational objectives.

Essential Experience

  • Educated to A-Level standard (or equivalent), or able to demonstrate significant, relevant experience in a similar role with a proven track record of achievement.
  • 13+ years of experience in sales or business development (waste management industry preferred).
  • Familiarity with contract management processes, including monitoring performance against KPIs and SLAs.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Proven track record of achieving sales targets.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
  • Valid driving license and access to own transport.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within the waste management, recycling, environmental services, or sustainability sector.
  • Knowledge of waste legislation and environmental compliance.
  • Experience responding to tenders and procurement opportunities.
  • Familiarity with contract management processes, including monitoring performance against KPIs and SLAs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends, risks, and opportunities from data and operational activities.

Hours of work: 8am to 5pm
