Are you a student Radiographer due to qualify this year? Or an experienced Radiographer looking for a new challenge? This role will allow you to develop your clinical skills as you rotate through the service. You’ll also gain experience teaching and supervising students and apprentices who work in the department. In return we offer funded training and development and support with career progression.
About the Role
Your role within the team:
- You will participate in the day-to-day provision of a safe, high quality external beam treatment service, including the extensive use of IMRT, IGRT, DIBH and SABR techniques.
- This rotational post will also include pre-treatment (CT scanning and virtual simulation) and brachytherapy, allowing you to develop a broad range of clinical radiotherapy experiences.
- You’ll have the opportunity to develop your non-clinical skills too by supporting the training and education of student Radiographers and Radiotherapy Apprentices.
- If you are due to qualify this year, there is the option to join the team as a Band 4 ahead of your registration.
About the department and team
The Oncology Centre is a light, clean and modern space located on the ground floor level of the Royal Devon site in Exeter. The centre benefits from a charity-run shop providing refreshments to patients and colleagues. Plus, there’s an on-site restaurant, cafes, a take-away service and a Boots. The friendly and supportive Therapeutic Radiographer team is over 40 people strong, and is focused on delivering exceptional patient focused care and treatment. On average 100 patients are treated and supported by the department on a daily basis.
Following a recent refreshment programme we have the following equipment and systems:
- An Eclipse planning system
- Varian Aria administration system
- Brachytherapy services
The external beam radiotherapy service is paperless, utilising the Varian Aria administration system for service delivery. We also offer a wide range of Brachytherapy services. Our service has undergone significant transformation over the past few years, including the commissioning of a wide range of SABR indications and the implementation of portal dosimetry, 4DCBCT, gated CBCT and 6 DoF couch tops. Current projects include the clinical implementation of phase gating and the imminent acquisition of an SGRT system. The Royal Devon is passionate about research and innovation, the team are actively involved in a broad range of clinical radiotherapy trials. Since autumn 2020 the service has been using an electronic patient record, EPIC.
Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week. Our department operates an extended working day, and so the ability to work flexibly to participate in shift working to cover service hours is essential. Participation in the provision of a bank holiday and weekend on call service is also required.

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2026-7 rates, inclusive of a 3.3% pay award implemented from April 2026. If you join before this date, remuneration will be based on the 2025-6 pay bandings.
