We are seeking a dynamic individual to lead and inspire our administrative teams within the Ophthalmology Department at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. In this exciting role, you will take responsibility for the day‑to‑day leadership and management of the admin team, supporting the delivery of high‑quality, patient‑centred services. Working closely with clinicians, managers, and colleagues, you will help ensure efficient operations and an excellent experience for our patients. We are seeking a motivated individual to step into a supportive administrative leadership role. You will supervise the administrative team, including PDRs, 1:1s, absence and leave monitoring, and the recruitment and training of new staff. You will help promote a positive team culture and ensure excellent customer care for patients, relatives, and carers. The role includes overseeing urgent and acute appointment bookings, monitoring ophthalmology waiting lists, and escalating overdue patients. You will use data reports to track performance, highlight capacity issues, and support service planning. You will assist with clinic setup in EPIC, manage clinician rotas in MediRota, and escalate clinic issues, working with the management team to arrange additional capacity where needed. You will also attend team meetings and take minutes as required.
We are looking for someone organised, adaptable, and detail‑focused, with strong communication skills and a positive, proactive approach. You should be confident supporting staff, managing change, and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
Working Pattern
- 30 hours - Fixed Term (Monday-Thursday)
- 30 hours - Permanent (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday)
One of these roles is a fixed term contract until 15/03/2027. For current NHS employees this post could be a secondment opportunity. This is an internal vacancy for Royal Devon employees, therefore Bank workers are currently not eligible to apply for this vacancy.
