We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, dedicated Registered Anaesthetic Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner to join our friendly Heavitree Day Case Unit Theatre team. The successful candidate will plan and manage the implementation of individual care programmes for patients as part of the team.
The successful candidate will be part of the team within the Day Surgery Unit at Heavitree with the flexibility to support the other Day Surgery Units within the Community (Tiverton, Exmouth) and Wonford theatres if required. This post requires enthusiasm, motivation, excellent communication skills and a commitment to work flexibly within a multidisciplinary team. It will also allow a great work‑life balance as there are no unsociable hours including weekends, bank holidays or nights.

Join our dynamic Day Surgery team and play a key role in delivering safe, high‑quality care to patients undergoing same‑day procedures. This is an excellent opportunity for anaesthetic nurses or ODPs to build strong perioperative skills across anaesthetics, scrub, and recovery within a supportive, fast‑paced environment. You’ll work closely with anaesthetists, surgeons, nurses, and fellow ODPs to ensure smooth patient flow, excellent patient experience, and safe clinical practice. We’ll support your development through opportunities to rotate across perioperative areas.

The Heavitree Day Surgery Unit is arranged across two levels:
- Lower Ground Floor: Reception area, five single rooms, a five‑bay ward, Theatre 1 with Recovery, and the Pain Suite.
- Ground Floor: Theatres 2 and 3 with Recovery, along with ongoing development work to create two additional theatres.
Specialities include General Surgery (Upper GI, Colorectal, Vascular), Gynaecology, ENT (adults/paeds), Urology (including laser stone fragmentation procedures), Orthopaedics, Plastics, Oral and Pain Management. The Unit is open 0730‑1900, potentially open until 8 PM in future with both morning and afternoon theatre lists covering a wide range of specialities under general, regional and local anaesthesia.
Working Pattern: Monday - Friday 8‑6
Preference will be given to staff with ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status, including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon. This is an internal vacancy for Royal Devon employees; bank workers are not eligible.
