We provide a general orthopaedic trauma and elective service that covers all the major subspecialties including hand, wrist, hip, knee, spine, shoulder, elbow, foot and ankle surgery.

The post holder will usually be linked with an elective subspecialty for a period of 6 months at a time, and may then rotate between subspecialties depending on the needs of the department and the experience and requirements of the appointee. The post holder will work with all of the Consultants providing a general trauma service alongside their elective subspecialty work.

There is a significant training element to this post and appointees will be expected to keep up-to-date with a surgical portfolio and continue to show progression towards becoming independent surgeons. Each subspecialty has the ability to adapt to the training needs of the appointee and you will be supported in your portfolio development. The post holder will be expected to support all more junior doctors and allied health professionals within the department. We have a full complement including three FY1 doctors, four FY2 doctors, one core surgical trainee, and one FY3 level Trust doctor.

Preference will be given to staff with ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon.

The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust reserves the right to close vacancy when sufficient applications have been received.

Salary is not the only financial benefit. You will have access to an extensive range of staff discounts on shopping, fitness and leisure options and you can spread the cost of technology and home appliance purchases from major retailers. You will also have access to other benefits including:
