RDC Aviation is a leading provider of aviation data, analytics and software solutions. We empower airlines, airports, and financial institutions with actionable insights through our innovative data platforms and APIs. Our mission is to simplify complex aviation data and deliver it in ways that drive smarter decisions.

This role is first and foremost about people. We're looking for someone with the experience, personality and credibility to create and embed a data engineering function in RDC. Someone who gets as much satisfaction from helping a colleague work through a difficult problem as they do from writing great pipelines and transformations themselves. You'll be joining a skilled and committed team of aviation and data experts, bringing your own experience to help us raise our standards, strengthen our data engineering practices and grow together. This is a hands‑on role with real influence over how we build – and one that will evolve with the business, offering increasing scope for the right person. Strong technical credentials matter, but it is your ability to inspire and develop those around you that will define success here.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining ELT/ETL pipelines using Snowflake, dbt, and SQL to transform raw aviation data into analytics‑ready datasets.
  • Building and optimising Snowflake objects including stages, tasks, stored procedures, dynamic tables, and streams.
  • Identifying cost optimisation within warehouse use and query structures.
  • Implementing data quality frameworks, monitoring, and alerting across bronze, silver, and gold data layers.
  • Collaborating with product, data, and commercial teams to translate business requirements into scalable data models.
  • Managing cloud storage integrations including Azure Blob and GCS and orchestrating automated ingestion workflows.
  • Maintaining documentation, version control using Git, and CI/CD processes for all data assets.
  • Playing an active role in future hiring decisions as the team grows.

What We're Looking For

We don't expect anyone to tick every box here. If you have core data engineering experience on Snowflake and most of the technical background, we'd love to hear from you.

  • Strong proficiency in SQL including complex joins, window functions, CTEs, and performance tuning.
  • Hands‑on experience with Snowflake including tasks, stages, RBAC, warehouses, and resource monitors.
  • Working knowledge of dbt including models, tests, sources, documentation, and packages.
  • Experience building and maintaining production‑grade data pipelines in a cloud environment.
  • Familiarity with at least one scripting language, with Python preferred, for data processing tasks.
  • Understanding of medallion architecture patterns.
  • An effective communicator who can work cross‑functionally with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Other Useful Experience

  • Experience with Azure services including Blob Storage, Data Factory, and DevOps.
  • Familiarity with BI tools such as Sigma Computing and Power BI, including DAX and Power Query.
  • Domain knowledge of aviation data such as schedules, fleet, financial, or operational datasets.
  • Experience with CI/CD for data using tools such as dbt Cloud, GitHub Actions, or Azure Pipelines.
  • Knowledge of data governance, cataloguing, and metadata management practices.

What's in It for You

A chance to be a founding driver of our data engineering function at an exciting point in its journey. The prospect of helping to build and grow the team as the business scales over the coming years. Real input into data engineering standards, tooling, culture, and future hiring decisions. Products that matter, used by some of the biggest names in aviation.

We also offer a benefits package designed with flexibility and wellbeing in mind:

  • Hybrid working with flexibility built in.
  • Private healthcare (on completion of probation).
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays and a day off on your birthday.
  • Auto enrolment pension scheme.
  • Charity donation scheme.
  • Work‑from‑anywhere week.
  • Regular team events, a summer activities day and Christmas party.
