Overview

We’re looking for an R&D Client & Tax Consultant to lead on tax and finance for R&D claims, ensuring submissions are accurate, compliant, and maximised. This is a finance and tax focused role with variety and impact, working across diverse industries like technology, engineering, construction, and manufacturing.

Title: R&D Client & Tax Consultant

Location: Office based – Chelmsford

Salary: £30k – £45k

Hours: 37.5

Responsibilities

• Lead R&D tax claims, applying legislation and DSIT Guidelines.
• Analyse financial data, identify eligible R&D expenditure, and draft HMRC submissions.
• Advise and liaise with clients on tax matters, deadlines, and objectives.
• Draft and review technical and financial reports for audit-ready claims.
• Attend client meetings to scope projects and collect data.
• Provide support during HMRC enquiries and keep clients updated on changes to R&D tax rules.

About You

• Analytical, detail-focused, and commercially minded.
• Experienced in R&D tax, finance, or advisory roles.
• Strong knowledge of UK GAAP, accounting principles, and tax regulations.
• Excellent interpersonal and client management skills.
• Capable of producing high-quality technical and financial reports.
• Flexible, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities under pressure.

Qualifications

• Strong GCSEs (Maths & English).
• ATT / CTA / ACA / ACCA or equivalent (or qualified by experience).
• Degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, STEM, or Business (desirable).
