We are working on a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Project Accountant to join a highly respected and forward-thinking business operating within the UK infrastructure and civil engineering sector. This organisation is undergoing a major digital and operational transformation, including the phased implementation of two new ERP systems. This is a pivotal 12-month fixed-term contract, designed for a hands-on, commercially astute finance professional who thrives in dynamic environments and has prior systems implementation experience.
The Role
As Project Accountant, you will report directly to the Group Financial Controller and act as the finance lead on two critical systems projects. The organisation is currently implementing a new Pay and Bill system and embarking on a full ERP transformation to Microsoft Dynamics (Evision), expected to go live in early 2026. You’ll play a central role in ensuring a smooth transition between legacy systems and the future tech stack. This is not just a technical systems job; it’s about translating operational needs into system requirements, ensuring data integrity, driving efficiencies, and influencing change across the organisation.
- Lead and support ERP implementation projects from a finance perspective.
- Translate business and finance needs into ERP system specifications.
- Write and review test scripts; design control documents.
- Partner cross-functionally across operations, HR, IT, and external vendors.
- Support BAU Accountants by backfilling operational tasks during the ERP rollout.
- Deliver process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in reporting.
- Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards and auditing requirements.
- Monitor project spend and ensure capitalisation of relevant costs.
- Contribute to acquisition support and integration planning where appropriate.
You’ll be embedded within a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, where no two days are the same. Expect to work closely with all functional heads and project teams, requiring strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to influence at multiple levels.
About You
You’re an experienced finance professional who’s walked the path of systems implementation before—ideally in a high-growth, fast-paced environment. We’re looking for someone who’s:
- A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)—though strong part-qualified candidates with relevant experience will also be considered.
- Technically astute and systems-savvy with hands-on ERP project involvement.
- Naturally analytical, inquisitive, and detail-oriented.
- Capable of delivering in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Collaborative by nature, with strong communication skills across departments.
- Proactive and solutions-focused—a genuine self-starter who takes ownership.
- Sector experience in construction or labour supply is desirable, though not essential.
This role will suit someone who enjoys variety, values autonomy, and is comfortable working directly with senior leadership. If you’re someone who sees problems as opportunities and enjoys bringing order to complexity—this is the perfect challenge.
