Are you an experienced Financial Controller looking for a role where you can take ownership of the finance function and play a key part in supporting the wider business?

This well-established and growing company is looking for a capable and commercially minded Financial Controller to join their team. Reporting directly to the Directors, you will take responsibility for the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, while overseeing a range of core accounting and finance activities.

The Role

This is a broad Financial Controller position with responsibility across financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cashflow, audit, taxation and the day-to-day management of the finance team.

You will work closely with the Directors and other departments across the business, providing accurate financial information and helping to identify opportunities to improve financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare statutory accounts and monthly management accounts
  • Use Sage Line 50 as part of the day-to-day finance function
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts and monitor actual performance against budget
  • Analyse and report on variances
  • Manage cashflow and cashflow projections
  • Review reports produced by the finance team, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Support the financial health and profitability of the business through financial analysis and recommendations
  • Recommend improvements to financial policies and procedures
  • Manage relationships with accountants, auditors, banks, insurers and other professional organisations
  • Coordinate the annual audit and prepare supporting documentation
  • Ensure compliance with relevant government regulations
  • Oversee taxation and ensure all tax payments are made on time
  • Deal with HMRC queries
  • Review payroll and maintain accurate records of loans, advances and deductions
  • Oversee insurance matters, including claims
  • Oversee fleet-related finance administration, including PCNs, mileage and insurance
  • Manage and prioritise the workload of the finance team
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation
  • Provide financial support to the Directors and respond to queries from across the business
  • Provide cover for the wider finance team and support with ad hoc duties as required

About You

  • Qualified accountant with a strong understanding of financial reporting and the wider finance function.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills and the confidence to work closely with Directors and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience of managing or overseeing a finance team would be advantageous.
  • Experience using Sage Line 50 and CIS is desirable.
