A high-impact opportunity for an experienced Finance Manager to join a fast-growing UK organisation with great expansion plans. This role offers hands-on ownership, career development, and the chance to shape the finance function as the business grows towards £20m turnover. Candidates must be able to commute to the Aylesbury area.
The Role
- Reporting to the Directors, you will take full responsibility for the UK finance function across two business units.
- You will manage day-to-day finance operations, deliver accurate management accounts, drive cashflow improvements, and oversee an outsourced finance team in India.
- You will also provide commercial insight, support growth initiatives, and play a key role in strategic decision-making.
About You
- Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent)
- 3+ years' post-qualification experience in a hands-on Finance Manager or Financial Controller role
- Strong UK VAT, payroll and statutory accounts experience
- Experience managing outsourced/offshore finance teams and setting SLAs
- SME experience preferred; waste, logistics or transport sector advantageous
- Strong accounting systems experience (Xero preferred) and advanced Excel
- Experience with ERP integrations, Microsoft Dynamics and AI desirable
- Commercial, pragmatic and operationally focused
- Excellent leadership, communication and analytical skills
- Organised, detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and focused on continuous improvement
- Able to translate numbers into actionable insight and interact confidently with non-finance stakeholders
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all UK finance operations including general ledger, AR, AP, payroll interface, bank reconciliations, fixed assets, VAT and intercompany accounting
- Lead month-end and year-end close, produce management accounts with variance analysis and actionable commentary
- Prepare P&L and cashflow forecasts, manage cash and working capital
- Ensure VAT and statutory compliance, liaise with HMRC, prepare year-end accounts with external advisers
- Manage budgeting, rolling forecasts, commercial and pricing analysis
- Develop KPIs and dashboards for operational managers and senior leadership
- Oversee outsourced finance services, maintain controls, SLAs and quality assurance
- Implement internal controls, process improvements, automation and system integrations
- Act as primary contact for lenders, auditors and external advisors
- Provide ad hoc commercial and project finance support
- Deliver KPIs including timely management accounts, improved working capital, zero compliance errors, successful offshore delivery, and finance automation improvements
