Coleg Plas Dwbl sits on biodynamic farmland at the foot of the Preseli Mountains in the Welsh countryside. The 100-acre location offers a wealth of natural materials that are used in our curriculum crafts. These include clay for pottery, slate and stone, and wool from the sheep.
We are seeking to appoint an Occupational Therapist to join the team at Coleg Plas Dwbl to work with specific or small groups of students based on assessments of the student’s support and developmental needs.
The main purpose of the role is:
- To advise and train college staff on the use of Ruskin Mill’s unique method of Practical Skills Therapeutic (PSTE) and the Steiner Waldorf Curriculum as interventions to meet the students’ sensory and self-regulation needs as identified in the EHC plan.
- To deliver individual or group interventions as identified in the EHC plan using the outdoors, natural materials and the natural environment and nature.
- To validate and document student progress by being immersed in PSTE and the Steiner Curriculum utilising their expertise in sensory profiles and sensory integration.
- To provide occupational therapy services for the college which secures its success and continuous improvement, ensuring high quality education for all its students and the highest standards of learning and achievement in accordance with statutory and Ofsted requirements and the vision, and method of Ruskin Mill Trust. This includes ensuring the development of the college as a contemporary Rudolf Steiner provision for children and young people with complex learning needs.
In order to be successful in this role you will:
- Be qualified to degree level in Occupational Therapy.
- Be registered with HCPC.
- Qualification in Sensory Integration is highly desired, however, not essential.
- Have experience of working with students who have autistic spectrum conditions and other learning differences, sensory integration and have a knowledge of specialist education.
- A flexible and professional approach is required.
- Be able to demonstrate strong communication and time management skills.
