The Transport Planner will report to the Transport Manager and play a vital role in planning all the collections for our general haulage drivers and assisting in the day-to-day operation. The role will ensure that all collections are optimised for efficiency, compliance, and customer satisfaction, while maintaining high standards of cost control, driver utilisation, and service delivery.

Responsibilities of the Transport Planner:

  • Planning collections for our returning drivers.
  • Planning vehicles around requests, challenges and changes.
  • Customer Systems – effectively planning the future collections and deliveries.
  • Use of sub-contractors on haulage exchange.
  • Monitoring customer requests, allocating jobs and issuing instructions.
  • Liaising with hauliers, drivers and colleagues to ensure on time deliveries.
  • Keeping up to date with transport issues and dealing with changes to the day’s schedules.
  • Communicate fleet availability and issues to the whole team.
  • Brief and de-brief drivers on their daily runs throughout the day.
  • Record collection/delivery status and discrepancies in systems and escalate where appropriate.
  • Answering inbound calls to the business.
