We are seeking an experienced and proactive Design Manager to join a top business specialising in Student Accommodation projects to take responsibility for managing the design process from pre-construction through to project delivery. You will play a key role in coordinating consultants, ensuring design compliance, and supporting successful, buildable project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate the design process across all project stages
- Lead design development from tender through construction and handover
- Coordinate architects, engineers, and specialist consultants
- Ensure designs are compliant with statutory requirements, building regulations, and client briefs
- Manage design programmes, deliverables, and information flow
- Identify and manage design risks, opportunities, and value engineering options
- Chair and lead design meetings and workshops
- Review drawings and specifications for buildability, cost, and programme impact
- Work closely with commercial, planning, and site teams to ensure design intent is delivered
- Manage design changes and ensure accurate, timely information is issued to site
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Design Manager in Student Accommodation or Build to Rent schemes.
- Strong understanding of construction methods and sequencing
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams
- Ability to interpret and challenge technical drawings and specifications
- Excellent organisational, communication, and coordination skills
- Strong knowledge of relevant building regulations and industry standards
- Proficient in design management systems and document control platforms
Desirable (but not essential)
- Relevant qualification in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or similar
