The Royal College of General Practitioners is the largest membership organisation solely for GPs in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1952, it has over 55,000 members who are committed to improving patient care, developing their own skills and promoting general practice as a discipline. General practice is the largest branch of the medical profession. It provides some 1 million consultations for patients in the UK every working day and deals with 86% of the health problems experienced by the UK population.

We are recruiting a Programme Operations Manager to join the Primary Care Development (PCD) team within the Membership and Development directorate. In this role you will be responsible for the operational delivery of the College’s Primary Care Development programmes, ensuring work is delivered on time, within scope and to agreed quality standards. The core aim of the role is to support high‑quality delivery of programmes that help general practice, ICBs and system partners improve patient care and sustainability.

You will work closely with the Senior Programme Manager, programme teams and a national network of advisers to deliver a varied portfolio of work. This includes consultancy and development support to practices and networks, large‑scale commissioned programmes, and the delivery of the NHSE Practice Level Support (PLS) programme, a large contract providing hands‑on improvement support to practices across multiple ICB regions.

The successful candidate will share our corporate values. In return, the College offers excellent terms and conditions and a great working environment.

The role involves overseeing day‑to‑day operational activity, maintaining delivery processes and reporting, coordinating adviser engagement, and supporting effective management of programme finances and contracts. You will also line manage a small team of programme coordinators and work collaboratively with colleagues across the College to ensure programmes are well‑organised, responsive and delivered to a consistently high standard.

The Royal College of General Practitioners is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
