The Royal College of General Practitioners is the largest membership organisation solely for GPs in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1952, it has over 55,000 members who are committed to improving patient care, developing their own skills and promoting general practice as a discipline. General practice is the largest branch of the medical profession. It provides some one million consultations for patients in the UK every working day and deals with the majority of the health problems experienced by our population.

We are now recruiting for a new Medical Director for Clinical Policy to join our policy team, which is part of our Policy, Research and Campaigns department. In this role you will contribute to RCGP's influence on UK clinical policy. The core aim is to influence national decision-makers to change clinical policies and commissioning guidance, to improve clinical practice for GPs and their patients.

You will work closely with the Head of Policy, the Senior Clinical Policy Officer and the elected College Officer team to support the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based clinical policy outputs, including consultation responses, policy reports and position statements. This will involve ensuring the views of RCGP members are considered by key stakeholders.

Other key responsibilities include providing clinical leadership for the RCGP's Clinical Adviser Network and College Representatives, working closely with the Vice President – Member Standards on external requests to the College for endorsements and representatives, and providing clinical expertise and advice to support the wider Officer and senior team, as well as working with the wider policy, public affairs and press teams on relevant clinical queries.

If you are enthusiastic about general practice, with an in-depth knowledge of the issues facing primary care as well as the principles of evidence-based policy development then this may be the ideal role for you. The role will suit someone with strong stakeholder engagement skills, exceptional clinical knowledge, the ability to work collaboratively across teams, and experience of working on clinical guidance.

The Royal College of General Practitioners is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
