About the Role

This is a unique and influential role within the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), supporting the delivery of one of the UK’s largest and most high-profile medical licensing examinations. The MRCGP examinations are undertaken by approximately 7,000 GP registrars each year and rely on a complex range of digital platforms, suppliers, and technical environments to ensure safe, fair, and seamless delivery. This role will provide operational ownership and technical leadership across those systems, ensuring that examination platforms remain reliable, secure, and fit for purpose. Working closely with the Examinations team, Digital Services (DDAT), platform providers, and NHS stakeholders, you will act as the bridge between assessment operations and technology delivery. You will play a key role in ensuring that examinations function effectively in real-world environments, including GP practices and NHS networks across the UK. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who combines strong technical understanding with operational confidence, stakeholder management skills, and a calm, solutions-focused approach in a high-stakes environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead operational management of examination delivery platforms, including supplier oversight and performance management
  • Support the reliable delivery of examinations across complex technical environments, including GP practices and NHS networks
  • Act as the operational product owner for examination systems, coordinating enhancements, fixes, and development priorities
  • Lead technical testing, user acceptance testing, and change assurance for platform updates and releases
  • Work collaboratively with DDAT and external suppliers to resolve technical issues and improve platform performance
  • Provide technical oversight and escalation support during live examination delivery
  • Support the implementation of technical solutions for reasonable adjustments and accessibility requirements
  • Maintain technical risk logs and support business continuity planning for examination delivery
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation projects, including AI-enabled approaches to assessment development and operational efficiency
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including NHS organisations and platform providers

About You

You will have experience managing digital platforms or technical systems within a complex operational environment and be confident working across both technical and non-technical teams. You will also demonstrate:

  • Experience managing supplier relationships and technical service performance
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience supporting operational delivery in complex or distributed environments
  • Understanding of testing, change management, and technical risk management
  • Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • A collaborative and solutions-focused approach
  • Experience within examinations, assessment, education, healthcare, or other high-stakes operational settings would be advantageous.
