Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – Plymouth, MI

(Intertek-PSI) team in Plymouth, MI . This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry.

What are we looking for?

The CWI is responsible for employing their knowledge and training of welding processes, test methods, discontinuities, materials, qualifications, and standards to ensure that weldments and weld-related activities comply with all applicable quality and safety criteria.

What you’ll do:

  1. Ensure compliance with safety and environment guidelines, policies, and regulations
  2. Testing and inspection of structural steel during erection on general building and pipeline sites, as well as occasional plant inspections
  3. Inspect general construction and structural steel erection for buildings
  4. Perform visual inspections on welded products in progress and completed jobs
  5. Inspect welding jobs for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut etc.
  6. Record results of tests and welding inspections
  7. Able to issue and follow up on non-conformances until the close out
  8. Plans and conducts the analysis, inspection, test, and/or integration to assure the quality of assigned product or component
  9. Reviews all welded products or components and provides input to the decision of whether to accept or reject the product
  10. Documents data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures
  11. Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to management
  12. Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications
  13. Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers
  14. May also operate testing equipment and conduct testing, (example: Soil, concrete or other) and provides assessment of data through reporting
  15. Operates a calculator to calculate mathematical test results
  16. Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work

What it takes to be successful in this role:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent required
  2. Must have AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification with D1.1 experience
  3. Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience required
  4. Ability to read blueprints and understand, and interpret tolerances
  5. Computer Skills: Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications
  6. Must be able to receive, understand, and execute written and verbal directions
  7. Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communication
  8. Must be able to work well independently and with others
  9. Must be able to periodically work off shifts and overtime
  10. Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record (required)

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications:

  1. Technical Degree in Welding is preferred
  2. Construction materials testing experience is preferred
