We are working with a leading healthcare communications agency to hire an experienced Account Director. This is a senior, visible role for someone who enjoys owning complex client programmes, shaping strategy, and inspiring teams to deliver work that genuinely makes a difference in healthcare. You’ll build trusted relationships with major clients, influence how important stories about diseases and treatments are told, and contribute to projects that help patients, carers and healthcare professionals better understand their options.

About Our Client

Our client is a specialist healthcare communications organisation supporting pharmaceutical, biotech and wider healthcare clients with both strategic and hands‑on programmes. Their work spans medical affairs, public relations and brand communications. The team is collaborative, curious and quality-driven, and they value clear thinking, strong client partnerships and work that is both compliant and impactful in a highly regulated environment.

The Role

As Account Director, you will take the lead on key client accounts and be accountable for the successful delivery of healthcare communication programmes from brief to execution. Working in a hybrid pattern from London, you will guide the team in day‑to‑day account management and long‑term strategic planning, ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard, on time and within budget. You will be the senior point of contact for clients, offering confident counsel on communication strategy and spotting opportunities to deepen and grow each partnership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and lead the strategic direction of healthcare communications accounts, ensuring all programmes clearly align with client objectives and industry requirements.
  • Act as the senior contact for clients, building strong, long‑term relationships and providing clear, well‑informed advice and recommendations.
  • Oversee the delivery of projects across the team, making sure timelines, quality standards and budgets are consistently met.
  • Lead, coach and mentor team members, supporting their development and helping them deliver confident, effective work.
  • Drive account growth by identifying new opportunities, shaping proposals and supporting pitch activity when needed.
  • Collaborate with internal specialists to bring together medical, creative and digital expertise into cohesive, engaging communication solutions.

About You

You are an experienced healthcare communications professional, already operating at Account Director level or ready to step up. You’re comfortable leading complex, multi‑stakeholder accounts and enjoy working closely with clients to solve communication challenges. You balance strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery, and you’re happy switching between high‑level planning and practical problem‑solving. You bring a collaborative mindset, a clear and confident communication style, and a strong focus on accuracy, quality and compliance in a healthcare setting.

You’re likely to have:

  • Solid experience in healthcare, pharma or medical communications agencies.
  • Proven success in leading accounts, managing teams and growing client relationships.
  • Confidence working within ABPI and other relevant industry codes.
  • A genuine interest in healthcare and a desire to see your work have real‑world impact.

What Our Client Offers

  • The chance to lead significant healthcare communication accounts and have a real voice in shaping strategy and direction.
  • A hybrid working model, combining time in the London office with flexibility to work from home.
  • Exposure to a broad mix of healthcare projects, from medical affairs and education to PR and brand communications.
  • A stable, professional environment where your contribution at Account Director level is recognised, supported and valued.
  • Opportunities for progression, with room to grow your role and influence as the business evolves.
