A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ASSISTANT RECEPTION MANAGER AT HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS BARROW

What you’ll be doing...

  • Reporting to the Operations Manager, you can expect your role to include:
  • Varied 8 to 10 hour shifts, which include, but not limited to, early shifts starting from 06:30, late shifts starting from 14:00 or occasional night shifts starting from 21:30.
  • Assume the role of Duty Manager when needed, taking charge of the hotel to assure operations run smoothly and guest’s expectations are met and surpassed when possible.
  • Work on the reception desk to deliver excellent customer service and ensure guest needs are met when possible.
  • Occasionally cover the night team when they are on annual leave to ensure night operations run successfully and smoothly.
  • Be there to support the team. Whether it be handling situations, offering advice, giving your opinion or transferring your knowledge, the team should value your expertise.
  • Cash handling and basic financial balancing.
  • Assist the Operations Manager by leading the reception and nights departments, pushing for operational excellence and meeting or surpassing set targets.
  • Your team is the face of the hotel at all times of the day and you must ensure that we make a good first impression and guest requests, expectations and satisfaction is met wherever possible, including ensuring the hotel does not become overbooked and guest feedback and reviews are acknowledged and actioned where appropriate.
  • Ensure information is passed on and staff are kept well informed of the goings on in the hotel.
  • Make changes based on observation or feedback to ensure operations and guest experience is the best it can be.
  • Answer guest reviews and liaise with guests regarding issues, complaints or requests.
  • Ensure training including learning, eLearning, fire and safety procedures are up to date to ensure the team is compliant with regulation and are kept well-trained.
  • Ensure IHG compliance and become a leader in the IHG ONE Rewards club (training provided) whilst working with the IHG Champion.
  • Work closely with the housekeeping department to ensure rooms are available when needed and guest expectations and requests are met.
  • Work closely with the maintenance department to ensure rooms are available when needed and issues with rooms are dealt with in a timely manner.

  • Has flexibility in working hours. You will be working varied shifts and will be required to work both day shifts and the night shifts.
  • Is reliable and punctual with a positive attitude.
  • Has leadership experience and team management experience.
  • Has hospitality experience, however training is provided.
  • Has basic computer skills.
  • Has great initiative, strong attention to detail and is someone who double checks everything, striving for the best possible standards.
  • Takes pride in their work and who pushes to have their expectations met.
  • Pushes for excellence within the team.
  • Is not afraid to get stuck in – a doer and not just a delegator.
  • A desire to learn and improve as the business changes and evolves.
  • A background with IHG and the Opera PMS system is extremely desirable, but not mandatory as training is provided.
