The role is within the Central Funding Group Technology team, to lead the pre-trade technology team building an in-house cross‑asset trading and execution platform. This is a real‑time application that provides analytics, order management dashboards and executions through electronic market connectivity. Repo and Sec Lending trades are the main traded products, but the platform also supports Futures, Swaps, FX and Cash trades.
This role requires excellent full‑stack technical skills that will enable the candidate to direct other team members in delivering top‑quality code, establishing best practices and providing architecture guidance and innovation. In addition to program delivery responsibilities, you will act as the London Head of Engineering for the Funding, Treasury and Liquidity (FTL) organization. This organization sits within RAMPP and runs multiple initiatives, one of these being the Repo and Sec Lending business.
Your primary objective is to provide technical direction and establish standards, but prototyping and actual code delivery is also required. This position is based in London, and the dev team is currently located in London, Toronto and Buenos Aires but further growth is planned in additional locations.
RBC’s expectation is that all employees and contractors will work in the office with some flexibility to work up to 1 day per week remotely, depending on working arrangements.
Responsibilities- Lead the design and development of applications supporting repo and securities lending workflows, including pre‑trade analytics, pricing, live risk, and order execution under the ATOM application.
- Come up with innovative solutions that are risk managed, maintainable and can be implemented within the allocated budgets.
- Influence the adoption of modern technologies and methodologies, including the latest AI tools.
- Champion a culture of delegation and empowerment, pushing decision‑making to team members, encouraging technical risk‑taking within guardrails, and creating space for engineers to grow through challenging work and mentorship.
- Lead and coordinate globally distributed teams across multiple regions supporting distinct application areas.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to team members.

- Maintain high standards of software quality, performance, and reliability across all applications.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and platform teams to establish efficient CI/CD pipelines and stable production and DR environments.
- Extensive professional software engineering experience, including senior engineering leadership or management roles leading teams of 15 or more people.
- Strong background in system design, architecture, and scalable platform development.
- Experience building distributed systems using message‑streaming technologies and in‑memory data platforms such as Apache Ignite, with a focus on performance and scalability.
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.
- Extensive experience in capital markets technology.
- Strong understanding of trading systems, including pricing, risk, and order management.
- Proven experience leading engineering teams distributed across multiple regions.
- Demonstrated ability to balance hands‑on development with leadership responsibilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging senior audiences.
- Experience driving innovation and adoption of emerging technologies, including AI.
