What is the opportunity?
Join RBC Capital Markets as a Senior Commodities Logistics Analyst to play a key role in supporting the bank’s global commodities business by managing logistics and operational execution of physical base and precious metals throughout the trade life cycle.
What will you do?
- Manage the end-to-end logistics activities associated with base and precious metals from trade execution through to deal maturity.
- Coordinate the movement of physical metal with warehouses, carriers, shipping agents, inspection companies, refiners, exchanges and customers.
- Monitor inventory movements across warehouse networks and storage facilities, ensuring accurate inventory records and timely reconciliations.
- Review and validate logistics ownership documentation including warehouse warrants, bills of lading, delivery orders, assay certificates, certificates of analysis, insurance documentation and customs documentation.
- Track shipments and proactively resolve operational issues that may impact trade settlement or delivery obligations.
- Partner with the Front Office to support the physical execution of commodities transactions and provide logistics expertise through the trade life cycle.
- Execute exchange deliveries of CME and LME warrants.
- Work closely with Operations, Risk, Compliance and Legal to ensure adherence to internal controls, contractual obligations and regulatory requirements.
- Produce operational reporting and analysis relating to inventory positions, logistics performance and transaction status.
- Identify opportunities to enhance operational processes, improve controls and increase efficiency across the commodities logistics functions.
- Support the onboarding of new warehouses, logistics providers, transportation routes and operational processes as the business expands.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Extensive experience in supporting the Base or precious metals trade life cycle within a bank, commodities trading house or other related entity.
- Strong knowledge of base metals (copper, aluminium, zinc, nickel, lead) and precious metals (gold, silver, platinum, palladium).
- In-depth understanding of global metals logistics, international shipping, incoterms, customs procedures, warehouse operations and physical delivery processes.
- Experience managing commodities logistics documentation, warehouse warrants, title transfer and shipping documents.
- Excellent analytical, organizational and problem solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working in commodity inventory management systems.
- Experience working with LME or CME exchanges, global warehouse operators and metal storage networks.
- Understanding of the exchange deliveries process for metal warrants.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build credibility quickly with senior clients and internal leaders.
- Experience managing complex escalations involving multiple functions and the ability to prioritize effectively under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and comfort presenting to clients and senior management.
- Ability to take ownership of client issues, and see them through to resolution in partnership with the Front Office and Operations teams.
Nice-to-have
- Understanding of sanctions, import/export regulations and international trade requirements.
- Experience with data analysis and reporting tools such as Power BI, SQL or Python.
- Experience managing multi-jurisdictional client operations on a global basis.
- Experience with operational incident management and crisis communication.
