What is the opportunity?

RBC Capital Markets is seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and senior developer to join our Operations Technology team, specializing in Fixed Income, Equities and Financing settlement operations.

This role offers the unique opportunity to provide technical authority and support for Broadridge’s Gloss platform and its integration across our trading, operations, risk, and finance ecosystems.

You will work at the intersection of capital markets technology and business operations, providing expert guidance that directly impacts settlement efficiency, regulatory compliance, and strategic innovation across RBC's global capital markets activities.

What will you do?

  • Serve as a SME for the Gloss platform, providing expert guidance on architecture, functionality, and integration with RBC's capital markets technology ecosystem.
  • Design and build technical solutions that seamlessly integrate settlement operations with upstream trading systems, middle-office risk platforms, and downstream finance and accounting infrastructure.
  • Advise cross-functional teams including operations and finance on settlement capabilities, P&L, accounting and optimization opportunities.
  • Analyze and resolve complex settlement issues that require deep technical and operational expertise across multiple interconnected systems.
  • Drive innovation by leveraging emerging technologies, particularly agentic AI solutions, to optimize settlement workflows, enhance operational efficiency, and develop intelligent automation for post-trade processes.
  • Ensure all Gloss platform integrations meet regulatory requirements and operational risk standards across Fixed Income and Equities asset classes.
  • Collaborate with development teams to implement strategic enhancements that improve settlement capabilities and support business growth.
  • Lead technical assessments of system changes to evaluate impact on settlement workflows across trading, operations, risk, and finance functions.
  • Maintain technical currency in light of evolving cyber risks.
  • Stay atop of industry changes impacting area and provide advice to business partners through project initiation e. g.

T+1 initiatives, US Treasury clearing, CHESS Replacement, Mini Crest.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Must-have
  • Deep settlement operations expertise: Proven experience in Fixed Income, Equities and Repo settlement, including comprehensive understanding of trade lifecycle, settlement workflows, confirmations, matching, settlement instructions, and reconciliations.
  • Gloss platform specialist: Demonstrated expertise with the Gloss platform (or similar settlement systems) including architecture, configuration, and integration patterns.
  • Cross-functional integration knowledge: Strong understanding of how settlement systems integrate with trading platforms, risk management systems, and finance/accounting infrastructure across the full trade lifecycle.

Strong understanding of P&L and accounting including trade matching and amortisation methodologies.

  • Technical proficiency: Strong Java skills, experience with capital markets technology stacks, and knowledge of databases (Sybase, Oracle, SQL Server, Mongo DB, Postgres).
  • Strong experience with software development best practices, including source code management, CI/CD pipelines, and tools such as Git Hub, Jenkins, and Nexus.
  • Knowledge of messaging platforms (MQ, JMS, Solace) and SWIFT messaging standards used in post-trade processing.
  • Capital Markets Operations background: Previous experience in Financial Services or Capital Markets, preferably within post-trade operations or clearing and settlement.
  • Regulatory awareness: Understanding of regulatory requirements impacting settlement operations, such as CSDR penalties, T+1 settlement cycles, and reporting obligations.
  • Stakeholder management: Exceptional communication skills with proven ability to advise and collaborate with stakeholders across trading, operations, risk, and finance functions.
