This is on site role with time split between Raytheon’s Harlow, Glenrothes and Livingston facility as required by the business. The successful candidate will report directly to the APNT Digital Engineering Manager whilst working closely with the APNT Chief Engineer in creating architectures and design solutions.The Senior Firmware Engineer will be able to make their mark on a broad and varied range of product designs and will be expected to assist in the integration of these designs into products, being the focal point for the complete system.The successful candidate will have access to professional development opportunities and be part of the growing Defence Business in Raytheon UK, delivering engineering expertise across a wide range of projects to both military and civil customers worldwide.Main Duties:The successful applicant will support the APNT Team across various programmes (both internally and Customer funded) and will involve:Architecture for all aspects of digital domain, including FPGA Firmware, DSP Algorithms development, modelling, and softwareContributes to the development of new principles and concepts in the APNT products with latest FPGA technologiesDevelop requirements to ensure compliance to the relevant standards (including DO-178 and DO-254)Create and manage modular architecture for firmware and softwareUnderstand, decompose and verify firmware requirementsDefine and perform unit level and sub system level testing for firmware and softwareWork alongside our systems, software and electronic design engineersGenerate supporting design documentation and perform regular technical reviews.Candidate Requirements:Essential:Experience working with FPGAs and SoC technologies, mainly XilinxExperience creating firmware architectures (modular open system design)Experience of creating model-based design and testing/verifying it against requirementsAbility to write FPGA design using VHDLAbility to design Processing System within SoC FGPAsPresent technical information clearly and concisely to othersDemonstrable analytical and problem-solving skillsMentor and support less experienced member of the teamAn openness to learn and try new techniquesAbility to adapt to a dynamic work environment - working independently or with others to overcome obstaclesCapable of analysing and reporting on technical dataEligible or holder of current SC security clearanceDesirable:Experience using the Vivado and Vitis design tools, or equivalentExperience working with the Xilinx chip familyExperience delivering embedded firmware as part of a productExperience creating embedded system architecturesFamiliarity with the application of a systems engineering approach across the design and development lifecycleKnowledge of defence engineering / airborne standardsWorking with Model Based System Engineering tools such as SimulinkBenefits: : Competitive salary Contributory Pension Scheme (up to 10.5% company contribution) 6 times salary ‘Life Assurance’ with pension 25 days holiday (increasing with service) + statutory public holidays, plus opportunity to buy and sell up to 5 days (37hr) Company bonus scheme (discretionary) Flexible Benefits scheme with extensive salary sacrifice schemes, including Health Cashplan, Dental, and Cycle to Work amongst others Enhanced sick pay Enhanced family friendly policies including enhanced maternity, paternity & shared parental leave Work Culture 37hr working week, although hours may vary depending on role, job requirement or site-specific arrangements.
