As Technical Lead, you will be critical to the successful delivery of the programme, collaborating within a matrix organisation across multi-disciplinary teams. The Technical Lead role requires a customer-first mindset, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary engineering team in a complex and evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for the live operational estate, ensuring the stability, performance, and availability of production systems and services.
- Act as the senior technical authority for service operations teams supporting cloud-based platforms, training systems, and business applications.
- Lead technical investigation and resolution of major incidents affecting live production services.
- Oversee operational support activities across infrastructure, applications, and platform services deployed in cloud environments.
- Provide technical oversight for system performance, reliability, and service resilience across the live estate.
- Manage and oversee patching and vulnerability management processes, ensuring systems are maintained in line with security policies and operational requirements.
- Work closely with engineering, DevOps, and service management teams to ensure smooth operation of CI/CD pipelines and production deployments.
- Support operational readiness for system releases, ensuring production environments are prepared for new capabilities and updates.
- Ensure monitoring, logging, and observability practices are implemented to maintain visibility of system health and performance.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to service operations teams, supporting effective troubleshooting and incident resolution.
- Contribute to continual service improvement by identifying operational risks, performance issues, and opportunities for optimisation.
Experience
- Providing first-line IT support within a service desk or technical support environment.
- Proven experience supporting and managing live production systems within complex defence, government or regulated enterprise or cloud environments.
- Strong technical expertise in cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS and their operational support models.
- Experience supporting containerised applications and orchestration platforms (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker or OpenShift).
- Experience diagnosing and resolving complex production incidents across infrastructure, platforms, and applications.
- Strong understanding of DevOps and CI/CD practices supporting deployment and operation of modern platforms.
- Experience managing system patching and vulnerability remediation activities in operational environments.
- Experience working with monitoring and observability tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
- Experience coordinating technical activities across engineering, support, and service management teams.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across distributed systems and cloud-based services.
- Experience supporting operational environments governed by ITIL service management practices.
- Experience supporting users within secure or regulated environments.
- Experience supporting users during operational events, exercises, or high-demand periods.
