Overview
As Head of Safety and Certification, you lead the System Safety, Certification and Environmental disciplines across Raytheon UK’s portfolio, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations. You mentor a specialist team and shape how safety, certification and environmental considerations are integrated into product development. You engage with stakeholders to sustain safe, compliant delivery of mission-critical systems. This senior role offers impact across bids, programmes and external audits, within a world-class aerospace and defence context.
Responsibilities
- Maintain System Safety policies and procedures aligned with standards and RTX/Raytheon policy
- Manage System Safety resources to meet business needs, cost and schedule
- Lead and guide System Safety workshops and assessments
- Review and approve System Safety documentation
- Maintain Product Safety procedures and engage with Product Safety Managers and Advisors
- Ensure Product Safety resources are available in collaboration with Heads of Engineering
- Review and approve Product Safety documentation
- Review and approve certification documentation (Plans, Declarations, Certificates) and maintain certification records
- Maintain environmental policies and provide timely specialist advice
- Manage environmental resources and lead environmental workshops and assessments
- Review and approve environmental documentation
- Champion engineering best practices and perform audits/reviews
- Lead technical input into bids/proposals, identifying risks and opportunities
- Represent Raytheon UK as a senior technical authority with customers and stakeholders
- Engage with forums to stay abreast of domain developments
- Support external audits and participate in Certification Board activities
- Lead audits of safety and environmental programmes and assist during bidding and compliance processes
Key requirements
- Degree in Engineering, Physics or other relevant subject
- Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership
- Track record of developing safety and environmental cases to standards (Def Stan 00-056, 00-055, 00-051)
- Proven leadership of specialist engineering teams in mission-critical product development
- Broad technical expertise across engineering functions
- Experience in assessing and assuring products with safety-related software functions
- Strong coaching, mentoring and talent development abilities
- Strategic, structured problem solving and decision-making
- Highly dependable, autonomous and results-driven
- Eligible for SC clearance with potential for DV clearance
