About the role

The Training Equipment Mechanical & Electrical Maintainer is responsible to the Regional Training Equipment Manager (Southwest) for level 2/3 maintenance and repair of various trainers, simulators, and training delivery support equipment in the Southwest of England with occasional travel to other areas as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on a wide range of Royal Navy training equipment, including motors, pumps, and hydraulic systems.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical defects by interpreting diagrams, using diagnostic tools, and testing equipment.
• Implement planned maintenance schedules to prevent equipment failure.
• Update the Maintenance tool (currently TABS Ethos) following any maintenance activity.
• Ensure all work follows appropriate safety regulations including DefStan’s and RN BR’s.
• Ensure that escorted visitors and contractors use appropriate PPE.
• Champion and foster a culture of “Safety First” and EHS compliance.
• Maintain a pro‑active and continuous improvement attitude.
• Act as the Project Engineer for the RAST training unit.
• Carry out any reasonable tasks as directed by the Training Equipment Manager.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
• Understanding of Royal Navy and RFA electrical and mechanical equipment and processes.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
• Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical diagrams.
• BS 7671 18th Edition.

Desirable

• IT competence.
• Capable of achieving Security Clearance (SC).
• Full UK Driving Licence.
