Training Designer – Warminster, Wiltshire

The Training Designer will be part of the training design team within the OMNIA Training programme.

This role is critical to the successful delivery of the Collective Training Transformation Programme (CTTP), ensuring that training design meets the needs of the British Army.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for delivery of collective training event design as part of a small team.
  • Accountable for all training events assigned to the team with regards to training transformation.
  • Produce Collective Training Exercise Plans and Assessment Solutions.
  • Ensure processes that support the review and change of training events follow the end‑to‑end training design process, are DSAT (Defence Systems Approach to Training) compliant, with media enhancements, adherence to quality standards, and resources appropriately allocated.
  • Proactively address, resolve, and when necessary, Escalate challenges that may impact delivery.
  • Collaborate with Army stakeholders to align training design with the operational environment, pacing threat, and current British Army Doctrine.
  • Update training design materials incorporating relevant recommendations and feedback from internal and external assurance.
  • Ensure governance, risk management, and compliance standards are met throughout the transformation lifecycle.
  • Contribute to a cross‑functional team, fostering a culture of innovation, agility and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and report on progress, risks and outcomes to Training Design leadership.
  • Deputise for the Training Design Lead when required.
  • Perform other duties to support the Training Design Service.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience designing Collective Training Exercises for the British Army across Live, Virtual and Constructive Environments.
  • Knowledge of British Army training design from Sub‑Unit to Corps.
  • Strong background in JSP 822 and the DSAT process.
  • Deep understanding of management methodologies and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders and influence at all levels of an organisation.
  • Experience in programme governance, risk management and benefits realisation.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Attention to detail, passion for quality and ability to plan and multitask.
  • Flexible approach to evolving priorities.
  • Experience working in or with public sector or defence‑related programmes.
  • Team player capable of integrating across Army and industry partners.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience with training and capability development programmes.
  • Familiarity with data‑driven decision‑making and digital transformation tools.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of UK Ministry of Defence procedures and policies.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and third‑party delivery partners.

Education and Experience

Requires advanced knowledge typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. Practical knowledge of project management is useful.

Typically requires a university degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 5 years prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years experience.

Engineering/Other technical positions typically require a degree in STEM and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience (unless prohibited by local laws/regulations).
