This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and high performing Principal Systems Engineer to work within the Raytheon Assured Position Navigation and Timing (APNT) Engineering team, part of the wider Systems & Products business unit, to produce Digital GPS Anti-Jam Systems and Alternative Navigation Solutions for the military market.
The role will provide Design Authority expertise across Raytheon’s range of APNT products, providing technical direction across the product lifecycle, from requirements capture, analysis, design through testing, qualification and certification activities, release to volume production and ongoing product sustainability.
Main Duties:- The role will report directly to the Senior Project Engineering Manager APNT, providing Technical Leadership and Direction for the Engineering team, with Design Authority responsibility for their assigned products and support in generating a development strategy and road maps for the APNT team.
- The candidate will support our Business Development and Capture team regarding customer support and technical/product strategy discussions.
- Responsible for leading the technical input for Bids and Proposals and Production of Engineering Estimates will assist in the successful capture of new business.
- Working closely with our Customers and the System Engineering Team to develop and shape the technical requirements design, generation of technical documentation and then manage these requirements through the design lifecycle in order to meet the requirements set during product development.
- Working with our experienced design team, industry experts and interfacing to our suppliers you will be solving complex technical problems on new and existing GPS Anti-Jam Products.
- Providing Engineering representation to production IPT (Integrated Product Team) regarding investigating production queries, obsolescence management and phasing of change management.
- Responsible for all technical design reviews and qualification, verification, validation, and certification of our designs ensures that we meet the highest standard the customer expects of Raytheon Products.
- Raytheon invests heavily in Research & Development for existing and new products within the APNT division.
- You will support and mentor our junior engineers through their activities to ensure the team's growth and future success.
- Product development experience at team lead level.
- Good knowledge of high speed digital design (up to GHz), electro-mechanical and/or thermal product design within harsh environments.
- Understanding of RF concepts and techniques for analogue signals to 2GHz.
- Design of circuits in analogue and digital, with exposure to FPGA or DSP control.
- Experience of interfacing designs into established systems.
- Proven experience and demonstrable achievement in systems engineering principles with regards product development.
- Experience in Product Qualification, for EMC, Environmental requirements.
- Demonstrable problem solving and analytical skills, willing to take ownership as well as positively contributing within cross-disciplined teams.
- Able to prioritise and manage their tasks and the engineering team activities to ensure all are completed to time and schedule whilst ensuring the required design process and quality is maintained.
- Experience in interpretation of customer specs and end use environments.
- Ability to develop hardware concepts efficiently from limited or vague customer requirements and communicate potential solutions.
- Experience with generation of technical documentation at all levels.
- Willingness to travel throughout the UK, Europe and the US.
- Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics) or similar industry certification.
- Eligible or current holder of SC security clearance.
- Design Authority experience for System Product development.
- Experience with interfacing to RF circuitry and high speed D/A/A/D conversion.
- Experience in schematic, and PCB layout tools, and Electronics simulation environments (e.g. Mentor, Matlab, LT Spice, Hyperlynx and Systemvision or equivalents).
- Knowledge of Firmware development, design and test using suitable toolsets (i.e. Xilinx Vivado, ModelSim).
- Product Quality Testing and Certification.
- Experience of working with Industry standard toolsets for requirement capture, design and task management (e.g. DOORs, Microsoft Project).
- Knowledge of GNSS systems and receiver characteristics.
- Experience with SysML or UML in a Systems Engineering environment.
- Understands the principles of 6 Sigma and Lean Manufacturing.

37hr working week, although hours may vary depending on role, job requirement or site-specific arrangements. Early 1.30pm finish Friday, start your weekend early! More formal flexible working arrangements can also be requested and assessed subject to the role.
