About the role:

The Component Engineer will be responsible for managing electronic and electromechanical components throughout their lifecycle, ensuring compliance with design, quality, and regulatory standards. This role supports product integrity by mitigating obsolescence risks, maintaining approved component databases, and collaborating with design teams to select and qualify parts for aerospace and defence applications. The Component Engineer role plays a key role in shaping and managing part number set-ups, configurations and a range of technical processes that keep operations running smoothly.

Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of electronic components and their applications.
  • Experience with component lifecycle management and obsolescence tools.
  • Familiarity with aerospace/defence standards and quality requirements.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain relevant security clearance for the role (or other security clearances if applicable) - e.g. baseline, SC, DV.
  • Flexibility on location and ability to travel to our UK facilities and overseas.
  • Excellent STEM skills demonstrated through academic achievement.
  • A passion for succeeding in a fast-paced, technology industry.

Desirable:

  • Experience with PLM systems (e.g., Windchill, SAP).
  • Knowledge of counterfeit component detection and mitigation.
  • Understanding of environmental compliance (RoHS, REACH).

Responsibilities:

  • Component Selection & Qualification: Evaluate and approve components for use in designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., MIL, DEF STAN). Work with suppliers and internal teams to qualify new parts and maintain approved vendor lists.
  • Obsolescence Management: Monitor component lifecycle status and proactively manage obsolescence risks. Develop mitigation strategies, including last-time buys and alternative sourcing.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure adherence to RoHS, REACH, and other environmental and regulatory requirements. Maintain component data integrity within PLM systems.
  • Technical Support: Provide guidance to design engineers on component selection and reliability. Support failure analysis and root cause investigations for component-related issues.
  • Supplier & Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with suppliers for technical queries and quality concerns. Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure continuity of supply.
