The Role
Weāre searching for an outstanding technical leader to become our Chief Engineer for Assured Position, Navigation and Timing (APNT). Our APNT business has a long, successful history in the development, manufacture and supply of GPS Anti-Jam and Anti-Spoofing technology for Land, Sea and Air applications. This includes our flagship GAS/ADAP and Landshield product lines, both of which are the result of substantial investment in analog electronics, digital electronics, digital signal processing, firmware, antennae design, RF and systems engineering capability.
This is a senior leadership role within the APNT business, accountable for technical governance and engineering delivery for APNT products, from cradle to grave. You will report directly to the Head of Engineering, Systems & Products, and indirectly to the Head of the APNT Business, working alongside the Senior Engineering Manager, APNT.
As a Chief Engineer, both breadth and depth of technical experience are essential, as is knowledge of the APNT market including customers, equipment suppliers and key stakeholders. Youāll demonstrate strong technical leadership, using your skills and experience to embed a customer-focused approach to product development in lockstep with industry and academia.
Responsibilities
- Accountable to the Head of Engineering for technical execution for APNT product development, including: technical integrity of programme work products, including safety assessments, requirement definition and decomposition, architecture, interface definition, development and production verification strategies, qualification, reliability and maintainability, and product certification balancing technical, cost and schedule risk.
- Chairing review boards, including but not limited to risk reviews, failure reviews, readiness reviews, design reviews, and configuration control boards (CCB).
- Represent Raytheon UK: you will act as the face of our organisation as the primary technical contact for APNT with key internal and external stakeholders, including customers and key suppliers, supported by the teamās experienced product design authorities.
- Clear, unambiguous technical leadership and direction, balancing technical performance with cost, schedule, product performance, producibility and affordability objectives.
- āSleeves rolled upā technical problem solving in the development and manufacturing domains, ensuring both corrective and preventive actions are delivered to resolve issues and prevent recurrence.
- Motivate and coach Engineering team members to success, demonstrating and communicating technical expectations for execution, accountability and execution discipline.
- Support the definition of technology strategy, technology roadmaps and product offerings for the business.
- Support the development of bids and proposals for new products.
- Mentoring engineers for technical leadership, technical leads and IPT leaders.
- Champion process maturity and the continuous improvement of our ways of working.
Candidate Requirements
- A Bachelorās Degree in Electronic Engineering or a related subject.
- Strong technical background in the design, qualification and certification of mission critical equipment, including the application of relevant design assurance processes and military standards.
- Significant breadth and depth of technical leadership experience spanning the engineering lifecycle, including Systems, Electronics (including Digital, RF and Firmware), Software, Mechanical, Reliability, and Manufacturing Engineering.
- Knowledge of the APNT market, including customers, equipment suppliers and key stakeholders.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills with a proven track record in skilful navigation of senior stakeholders across business and industry.
- A track record of strong engineering leadership, of delivering through others in a matrix organisation, a structured approach to problem solving, and of developing high performing teams.
- Highly dependable, autonomous and results oriented.
- Holder, or ability to achieve, SC Clearance.
- On the path to achieving, or have already achieved, professional registration as a Chartered Engineer.
- Willingness to travel throughout UK, Europe and the US.
