The role

Key Responsibilities
- Guiding and mentoring cloud platform engineers across multiple organisations, providing technical direction and support.
- Shaping the architecture and design of cloud solutions, ensuring alignment with business needs and best practices.
- Overseeing the management of cloud infrastructure, including provisioning, configuration, and maintenance.
- Collaborate with engineering, simulation, and training teams to ensure seamless integration across military training environments.
- Drive operational efficiencies through cloud adoption, DevSecOps and CI/CD.
- Ensuring the security and compliance of cloud environments through the implementation of appropriate security controls and governance frameworks.
- Coordinate with engineering teams to validate technical requirements and design specifications.
- Leading and participating in cloud transformation projects, driving adoption of new technologies and methodologies.
- Author, review and contribute to High‑Level Design (HLD) and technical documentation.
- Coordinate with cross‑functional engineering teams—including QA, development, operations, and business SMEs.
- Communicate risks, issues, and readiness status to project sponsors and governance boards.
- Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and refining processes, tools, and automation.
- Represent engineering interests in programme boards, technical reviews, and stakeholder and customer‑facing engagements.

You won’t necessarily have a military background, but you’ll understand what it means to serve and to put the mission first.
The OMNIA Training Cloud & Platform Eng Lead will provide technical oversight and management across the Army Collective Training Service (ACTS) Cloud based solutions and Platform approach. These will be prominently MODCloud hosted utilising Cloud Services from AWS, Azure, OCP where appropriate. Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the Cloud architecture, design, implementation and delivery across the ACTS services and capabilities, focused on driving cloud‑based solutions, both centrally and at the edge. This role requires a systems‑thinking mindset, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to lead across engineering teams in a complex and evolving environment. Given the programme’s focus on modelling and simulation, familiarity with relevant standards and technologies is highly desirable.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Azure Solutions Architect Expert or AWS Solutions Architect – Associate.
- Experience in managing and strong understanding of DevSecOps & CI/CD practices and pipelines.
- Experience with mobile edge computing, mesh networking, or tactical cloud solutions.
- Experience of: Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker, ArgoCD, Quay, Elastic Stack, Anchore, Azure Arc, GitHub, GitOPs, Keycloak, Prometheus, Red Hat Ceph and Advanced Cluster Security, Grafana, Kafka.
- Experience with cloud‑native architectures (containerization, orchestration, microservices).
- Understanding of cloud security best practices, security assessments, and governance frameworks.
- Ability to lead technical teams and collaborate across engineering, operations, and training domains.
- Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Multi‑cloud experience (AWS, GCP, OCI alongside primary cloud).
- Serverless architectures (Azure Functions, AWS Lambda).
- Advanced networking (SD‑WAN, ExpressRoute, Direct Connect).
- Cloud security tools (Azure Security Center, AWS GuardDuty).
- AI/ML integration (Azure AI, AWS SageMaker).
- Edge computing (Azure Stack Edge, AWS Outposts).
- Scripting & Automation: PowerShell, Python, Bash.
- Cost Management: Azure Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer, Budgets, Trusted Advisor.
- Familiarity with systems used in military training (TES, Constructive, Virtual).
- Experience integrating cloud solutions with simulation and training platforms.
- Knowledge of defence communications standards and interoperability frameworks (e.g., NATO STANAGs).
- Security cleared (SC or above).
